Tone Deft wrote:Probably the only intelligible waveform investigation you could do is to get CLEAN sine/square/triangle... waves without any aberations or harmonics. Music itself looks like chaos on the o'scope, any drums other than the kick would be unintelligible. I'd love to have one at home just for the eye candy, it would be cool to tune a guitar with too.
thats sorta what I thought, so I'm wondering how they could possibly say something like "we sometimes make tracks that simply look good on the oscilloscope. unfortunately it tends to be a bit on the rave side" or something to that effect, it's not a direct quote of course.
I'm inclined to beleive this is a live demonstration for "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". I think everybody can do this:
a. choose some random parameter that makes the shapes beatuiful on the osc screen, TO YOU. back at school that was: make the maximuns coincide with the grid corners every three blocks ...
b. tweak everything going into the osc so that its general shape matches your predefined beauty.

At least to some level of abstraction, if not discernible sounds, your work will present some congruence within itself. makes sense?

i've been using it lately as i've been playing with my own waveshaping in plogue and it makes life easier seeing whats goin on...

edit- i have to admit, i'm not entirely sure it's an oscilloscope per se though...

that was my thoughts too, I've had that thing for a while and never found a use for it. and I don't think it's techincally an oscilloscope.
It was as if someone shook up a 6 foot can of blood soda and suddenly popped the top.
