I think it's something different than schadenfreude, though, which I take to mean "enjoyment at someone else's misfortune." Looking at wrecks and gross stuff online isn't enjoyable per se.. I think it has more to do with a sort of morbid and narcissistic wonder/dread about our own death.

for instance, I've heard people say "oh hit and run... dude... thats 5 to 10 years"

maybe thats true, maybe it's not, but they obviously don't know a damn thing about it either way.
The better half of said person (me) is a public defender in King County, Seattle, Washington - works for SCRAP handles Misdemeanors, DUI's etc etc

that's how I know - I have to listen to this stuff all night every night - plus, I asked.

Hopefully South Park will devote an episode to it... Although the skankoff between her and Mr.Slave on a former episode pretty well summed it up for poor Paris the Hilton Heiress...

They should do time, and sorry, but a DUI is a big crime now, and should be. I know at least three people who have been killed or paralyzed by drunk drivers, so my sympathy level for a famous person, who could easily afford a driver, who decides to "rebel" by getting behind the wheel, and is too lame at bucking the system to not get caught, again, is nil.
That's fair - there's always 2 sides to everything

but kind of like that movie pulp fiction

my girls a vegetarian so that makes me a vegetarian

my better half is a public defender and I have to listen to this kind of stuff all night

but for the record in Seattle (I had to ask)

If you're caught driving on a suspended license for a dui it's a second degree suspended license charge - mandatory 30 days in jail (in california it's obviously more...the judge gave her the max) BUT 9 times out of 10 depending on your record and the judges mood (seriously) people tend to night do anytime and home monitoring or house arrest is given

had Paris not been so stupid at her trial she probably would have got off with a warning or home monitoring but because of her "holier than thou" attitude in court the judge gave it to her (hehe, gave it to her...get it)

but hey, when I watch Law and Order I'm always rooting for Jack McCoy (the prosecutor) so I can hear where you're coming from...
Actually, a friend of mine went in on the 5th for exactly this same thing, DUI, and driving on a suspended liscense. He got 20 days, and work release, which obviously Paris didn't need!
California is probably harsher about it though, they drive FAST there, drunks behind the wheel are probably responsible for some BIG accidents!
Serious, last time in the Bay Area I was going 80mph in bumper to bumper traffic! 8O

But the most important question is of course....

Does Paris Hilton have Ableton Live, and if so .. which version!

Surely she knows Antares Autotune works great with Ableton

she should have been on home detention in the first place

and I don't know if you know anyone who's had to be on "house arrest" it's not all that - sure you can stay home and mix records all day but you can't leave to go buy a new one

You just don't like her

the sentencing judge didn't like her either
From what I understand about the case, her behavior during the entire legal process was very disrespectful. While the law allows a range of senetencing for the violation, she apparently was asking for it, and I would think that anybody that would be in the same position had they acted in a similar way. Rule: be nice to the judge.

She's goin back to jail for the full 45 days. Crazy, and check this juicy little rumour out...

from http://www.wwtdd.com/:
UPDATE: And since there’s no better source for hard news than third party emails, heres another possible reason Paris was let out yesterday, thanks to the sexy Heather:

"My friend's brother (who works with [Sheriff Lee] Baca's assistant sheriffs) told me that Paris was released due to a severe, "stress-induced" herpes outbreak. He also said that he heard that the blisters had apparently spread to her anus and had taken on abcess-like features that required more serious medical attention. Thus, after taking into account jail overcrowding, the increasing liability that Paris presents, and Paris's lesions, all things weighed in favor of her being put on home confinement."

Is this true? Yes, it's 100 percent true (*). I didn't win trophies in journalism because of my seductive walk and charming smile. In fact, I didn’t win any trophies in journalism at all, so take that!

(*) warning - may not be true
