Why is audio distorted in Live 6?

Post by Cory Cullinan » Sat Jun 02, 2007 9:12 pm

Hello,

I am starting to use Live 6 for live shows. I am an experienced Logic 7 user.

When I record vocals or guitar (any audio) into Live 6, it sounds very bad -- distorted, sort of like it was recorded under water.

When I use exactly the same audio interface and input setup with Logic 7, it sounds fine. So it must have something to do with the way Live is currently set up.

I went through the tutorials and set everything correctly, as far as I can tell. I have my sample rate set to 44.1.

My hardware is:

Apogee Ensemble interface
MacBook Pro computer

I am on a deadline and this problem has me completely stuck. Anybody know what to do?

Thanks,

'underwater' sound normally relates to having warping on, although that wouldn't really begin to produce nasty sounds unless you changed tempo between recording and playing back.

IE : record at 120 bpm , play it back warped at 60 bpm ... you'll get wobble.

if you record and play back at the same tempo , even with warp on you should get no wobble or muffling.

I advise against using 'complex' mode though - that always produces artifacts in your sound, even if you don't change tempo.

warping is timestretching and all timestretching makes artifacts.
