well, it's not something I can put my finger on but the cpu usage SUCKS!
For example, I have a pc that is about 2 1/2 years old. It's an amd 4000+ single core and the "intelmac" is a coreduo 2ghz and most plugs run about TWICE the cpu useage on the imac
I do believe that part of it is this "universal binary" thing......with the exception of live (why I don't know) and addictive drums (which I do know cause I beta tested it and put it through the ringer) plugs run way too hot. My only explanation is that the ub porting is not as efficient. I've heard it a number of times from others.
The good news is the core 2 duo's are better chips overall........that's what a new one would have.

Oh, I forgot to say that I'm one of the ones who had to wait through all that UB update GARBAGE, so I'm also bitter that after all the waiting, the plugs don't really run near as well as they do for the supposedly "crappy" windows xp.

Oh ok,
1. coreduo lameness ..................................................:$500
2. involuntary beta testing bitterness..........................:$300
3. convincing Mesmer to stay away from the iPhone: Priceless.

UB is just about getting both markets.
The hardware was supposidly due a year ago, 2 weeks from now.
Instead it arrived 6 months earlier and caught at least some developers by surprise.
Apple probably made more money on developers then consumers with that switch.
PPC fade-out can come quick. If Apple releases Leopard as intel only...
The old G5's and G4's will run tiger till they break..
Its always something. Not like the XP to Vista crowd is getting a better experience.

Not going to happen. There'd be lawsuits...
I think they're going to drop MAYBE support for G3s in Leopard, and MAYBE G4s in the next one - although, they set themselves up a little by releasing 32-bit Intels, cos that means they're going to have to stay 32-bit for another few years. Depending on how long it takes, I think I'll be able to run 10.6 on my iBook as well, but WTFDIK.
Suit #1: I mean, have you got any insight as to why a bright boy like this would jeopardize the lives of millions?
Suit #2: No, sir, he says he does this sort of thing for fun.

Oh yeah.. Forgot about the 32 bit intels..
What do you expect.. I've had a 64 bit machine for years. I'm still waiting for it to live up to the hype.

The BeBox was dual 32bit PPC 601s... I'd die for one, though. Just for the history of it.
I'm referring to my
O2, the beautiful little thing..
