Plug-in formats

Post by Landdogger » Sun Jun 10, 2007 9:40 pm

Are all plug-ins for Mac and PC, or are certain formats for certain platforms? Can I find a list of what works for which? I'm a Mac user on a Powerbook G4.

Macs use AU (Audio Units, Apple´s own format) and VST. PCs use VST.

PC and MAC VSTs aren't compatible. If you see something AU you know it is for Mac, but for a VST you need to check that it is a Mac version.

ProTools has it's own format called RTAS, but that only works with PT.

Yep. VST plugins on Windows are .dlls (dynamic link libraries).

Is the best way to find plug-ins just using google and searches, etc?
