I've read the numerous posts here about Live 6.0.7 crashing with various plugins. I thought I'd mention my problem with the Vienna Symphonic Library (VSL) Solo Strings plugin. Any newly created file that uses VSL will cause Live to crash. Repeated attempts produce the same result. (Incidentally, I'm on a Mac PPC using VST and AU versions of VSL.)
However, files with VSL will not crash if they are not the first file I open when I launch Live. In other words: launch Live, open file that doesn't have VSL, close file, open file with VSL...so far so good. If you're having similar problems with a plugin, try this trick and see if it works for you.
I should add that previous versions of Live did not crash when launching plugins. In addition to my problem with VSL, Live 6.0.7 has also crashed when I've opened files that use Kontakt 2. And as I stated above, numerous people on the forum are complaining of this same problem with other plugins.
I've sent my crash log to Ableton. So far no response (two days), but I do appreciate that they are busy. I've also been in touch with the folks at VSL, who have made numerous suggestions, though nothing has worked yet.
One last note: I was disappointed to see the list of bug fixes in 6.0.8 and not see any mention of a fix for crashes resulting from various plugins. This is obviously a big problem with Live. If, like me, you've invested in the EIC, the Puremagnetik Live Packs or (unlike me) Sampler and Operator, then you're hooked and really not about to switch to another host; you just want Ableton to fix the bugs. As a huge fan of Live, I'm hoping they do so, and soon.
