Live == the most creative DAW
Live == the most creative DAW
I cut my teeth on Opcode Vision, then moved to Digital Performer and then to Logic. Now I am on Live 6 and I can honestly say it is the most creative DAW out there. Nothing else even comes close. It just doesn't get in my way. All the others slow my creative output down to the point of loosing the groove, but not Live.
Kudos Albeton Live team! You have created a work of coding art. I am now a Live devote. You freed me! I'd buy it all over again. Best money I have spent in years!

You never have meter changes????mission1 wrote:I cut my teeth on Opcode Vision, then moved to Digital Performer and then to Logic. Ever want to quantize to a groove template?
That takes a lot out of the alleged 'most creative DAW'.
Re: Live == the most creative DAW
What other DAW gives you the drag and drop audio abilities, the warping and elastic audio qualities that Live has? Dishing on Live doesn't make others better. Name one other DAW that comes with a little red piano on the cover of the box!!??? PFFFT, NONE!!!thelocalhost wrote:You never have meter changes????mission1 wrote:I cut my teeth on Opcode Vision, then moved to Digital Performer and then to Logic. Doesn't that make it a conditional statement?timothyallan wrote:i'm just glad you used the comparison operator and not the assignment operator in your title.

I love Cubase and still use it for some things but Live opened up my creativity and productivity in amazing new ways.
I'm about to release an album put together in my spare time in 5 months (my last album took nearly 2 years using Cubase and Reason) and 75% is entirely done and mixed in Live 6 with Live contributing on the other 25% via rewire to Cubase and Reason, my old go to creative tool, only features via rewire into Live on 2 tracks out of 12. I even had a couple of tracks left over to put down a free internet ep, 14 tracks put together in under 6 months and I really like 13 of them...cool !

Sure, I change meters, but nothing too esoteric. I just deal with the grid in that case, but not using any grid at all.thelocalhost wrote:You never have meter changes????mission1 wrote:I cut my teeth on Opcode Vision, then moved to Digital Performer and then to Logic. I have several songs that are not using any sort of quantize or measure. Just free form. I mean hell, recording to tape the classic way didn't offer those things and I don't want to become dependent on them now. I started recording on a Tascam TSR-8. You are spoiled if you think you need groove quantize. What you need is be able to groove yourself and not rely on software to be your performance.
I can do all the stuff in Logic, after I spend the entire day fighting it.
If you depend on quantize you should learn to play an instrument.
I own ProTools, Logic and DP and when I feel like I have a song idea, the fastest way to make it happen is with Live.

MacBook Pro T7600 / OS X 10.5.7 / Ableton Suite 8.0.2 / Peak Pro XT 6.1.1 / ReMOTE 37SL
I join the poster.
I come from a long Cubase experience since version 5.
After I bought Live more than one year ago I never had to regret.
Live speeds up my creative moods in a way that's impossible to describe.
It simply happens. Live is not free from bugs, glitches, things you should know, just like any other software but it makes music creation a breeze. In the past with Cubase I put a lot of effort in the program and less in music creation. Now I concentrate on ideas. Even if Live's session view was probably ment as a 'Live Sequencer' I always begin my workflow usiing it either as a sketchpad or as long as I refine things I build the bricks in there and then when it comes the time I make an arrangement out of it. I can tweak the arrangement and still use the unmodified building blocks. Clever.
For me Live has been a pleasant revolution and still is, everyday worth every cent.

Do you even know what a groove template is? Do you understand the purpose of a groove template?mission1 wrote:You are spoiled if you think you need groove quantize. What you need is be able to groove yourself and not rely on software to be your performance.
.
So you never use quantization? Please post your tracks.

You never use quantization? Do either of you understand what a 'groove template' is, and how it intended to be used?capo-wear-i wrote:+2tricil wrote:truer words were never spoken, brother.mission1 wrote:You are spoiled if you think you need groove quantize. So you never just sketch a beat out by writing it in? By definition, that is using the quantization grid, and therefore 'rely on the software to be your performance' is true.
So every single beat you use is record audio that you performed, or midi (to impulse/battery) from an vdrums, or triggerfinger?
