I've this one in green - fits my laptop, MOTU Traveler, BCR2000, Maxtor HD, (large) headphones + power supplies.

I've had it for something like two years and it barely shows signs of wear/tear. Plus the straps are pretty comfy. Highly recommended.

UDG CourierBag Deluxe. Can fit my 17" laptop (incl. PSU), UC-33e + a bunch of 12" scratch records.

I love it. Camouflage = cool.

I've got this one in black. It only fits the laptop and nothing else though but looks VERY nice.

Another rucksack stylee one myself. Not sure of the make (technically, it's my flatmates). Designed for 17"" laptop, and will also fit soundcard, evolution, mains strip and a load of cables with out a problem. Other makes would be able to hold a similar amount I guess, they all look about the same size.

Most importantly, it's not imediately obvious it's a laptop bag. Just makes you look like a tourist. And no one ever mugs tourists, do they?

Also gives you two free arms to carry bottles or sharp bits of wood with which to fend of would be attackers.

Something vaguely waterproof would be a good plan as well.

a $20 icon case from walmart. it has lasted me for 4 solid years now. 3 of which were with my powerbook. 1 now with my macbook. it has a shit tonne of pockets on the inside. 1 big pocket on the outside front.. and 1 slide pocket on the back..

after my experience with this case i say $80 laptop bags are fucking ridiculous and i wouldn't be caught dead buying one...

imho.. ^_^

I have something similar to this:

It's a thin sleeve that protects the laptop from knocks, then I can chuck it into any old rucsac full of other gear and not wear a big sign saying 'mug me' ;)

my wife and i collect alot of bags and cases, mostly from thrift stores etc...
i have a nice selection to choose from.
only two real opinions here:
first, the less it looks like it has kit in it, the better (yes i'm a victim of theft, nice incase with a mac. way obvious)
second, after extensive travel with different types, i think shoulder and sling bags suck, you can't beat a good backpack.
