Deadmau5 on this video plays around with ableton loops hooked on his Xone:3D surface/mixer.
My question regards Ableton Live.
What kind of automatization/key map/midi map does he use
in order to cue the loops like on the video?
thanks alot.

If you are you talking about the "stutters"... thats no special automation or keymap or midi map.
Just set the clip launch mode to "Repeat" then set the launch quantization to a fine resolution like 16th notes or what ever you want the roll (stutter) to happen.
All this can be found in the Clip View on the bottom under the "Launch" tab. If you don't see the launch tab make sure the little circle marked "L" just under the Clip tab is active. Each clip can have its very own launch setting.
Hope that helps and I'm on the right track, not some tangent you are not even talking about.

Yeah! That's pretty much it! Thank you so much. It was so simple.
Now I've got to see how I could use my laptop keyboard to set those stutters in the same manner he's done on his Xone:3D, like different quantizations on a set of 4 keys. But do I have to manually set each loop to "repeat" mode? If yes, that's going to be a lot of work on my live set

Yeah whats up with Lucifer anyway? I know its probably been talked about a lot on many different forums. But what happened? Seems like I just got the new update email then right after that development stopped. Kinda bummed even though I did not use it much. Did DM replace it with something better?
Fat I think you're maybe right about him using Lucifer though... reason that made me think was the one time when he had like 3-4 different stutter speeds (pitches) for the one vocal track. Would be a bit trickier to do that with only Live... although it could be done. Other thing is he seemed pretty loose when releasing the stutter note.. yet the snare still always came around on the 2 and 4, if yah know what I mean. Sometime when I use live to do these sorts of stutters with like 16th notes and release the trigger at the wrong time the snare changes up to like 1 and 3 or whatever.
Anyway... more than just a few ways to get this kinda thing done I guess.

yes indeed. I tried the beat repeat with various quantize like 1/16 and it doesn't really work unless you tap the button at the right moment, plus beat repeat does start the beat at the beginning. on the deadmau5 video it seems like this stutter does work more smoothly and he doesn't have to think too much about when to push the button, at some point he randomly presses different quantize (I guess...) like 1/16, 1/32 or something like that and the beat starts over smoothly, no un-sync and stuff.
