Setting up the transport buttons on your controller

Post by sporkles » Tue Jun 19, 2007 9:45 pm

Apparently, Live doesn't support MMC messages from the controller, but a rather simple workaround is to set the buttons
to increment, not toggle, and then setting both the highest and the lowest value to 127.
(For play, stop, record and wind). Now simply use Live's MIDI mapping to assign them to Live's controls, and save as a
template.

It bugged me that the 'stop' button didn't also deactivate the 'play' button when set to toggle. I've now got buttons
on my BCR2000 controlling punch in and punch out on/off, loop on/off (toggle), play, stop, rec (increment)
and I've set two buttons to "jump to prev/next locator" (increment) Also, I've got push encoders controlling
tempo+metronome, groove and master volume.

Have you checked out Bomes midi translator? You can convert midi cc messages into keystrokes (or a series of keystrokes..). I also use a bcr2k and the transport section is awesome. It is also super handy on that thing to get a copy of JavaRE 1.4_08 so that you can run the BCREdit software, which will allow you to turn the "Store, Learn, Edit, etc.." into nav buttons and such...
I had one hell of a time locating the correct version of JRE (and Im Sun certified developer) so I saved the installer and You can PM me if you want it. The Sun site is huge and it is easy to get lost just like Java code..

Funny little tidbit too, terrapin testin new summer stasch decided I needed to name my bcr. so I thought for a minute about how to misspell control right.... "CuntRoll" Like a sushi platter of rotery encoders that got stuck in a fat chicks hairy hole++.
2.0Ghz Coreduo PC notebook, 4GB ram, Overclocked to hell sittin on aluminum extra fans w/ no drivebay or pcmcia...
2.8Ghz Quadcore on Asus MB, 4GBRam, Dual 512MB SLI Graphics both @16x.

I used the BCR edit app to set it up  - it's not as bad as it's hyped up to be!
I had to try out a couple of various JRE versions, but at least I knew that it was
1.4 *something*.

I've been thinking about using a midi translator, but how does that work, exactly?
Do you have to keep it running in the background every time you use Live?

Oh - one more thing: Do you happen to know if mapping a controller to a clip's
scrub only maps it to that particular clip, or to any active clip?
