Impossible to launch ABLETON

Hello everyone !

My computer is formated from A to Z and reinstalled with Windows xp
Ive installed avast, zone alarm pro and spybot in order to avoid virus.
Ive launched the ableton live installation and everything was well until ive launched the exe file (after the full installation) i got the error message:

Ableton Live has encountered an error and needs to close

Ive read the following error report:
AppName: live 6.0.1.exe AppVer: 1.0.0.1 ModName: live 6.0.1.exe
ModVer: 1.0.0.1 Offset: 0087b4c6

Ive downloaded the demo version of ableton in order to just try to use it and ive got the same problem at the end.
My computer is completely empty and theres no virus or anything like that trust me !
PLEASE i do need your help PLEASE

The error message looks like that :

nb: Ive restarted 3 times my computer but i got the same problem at the end

Hi,

You should try the 6.0.7 version, and also possibly the latest 6.0.8 beta, that you'll find in this section of the forum.

Hello Amaury,
first i wanna thank you very much for your help!
The Ableton that ive installed into my computer was the 6.0.7 version, i hope that 6.0.8 beta will work for me

Hi,

How was this resolved? I have the exact some problem. Or more specifically, it crashes when it tries to scan VSTs.

Also, this didn't answer the question of how to access the beta.

Btw I am running windows Vista.

Hi,

If Live fails while scanning for VSTs, it either means that one of them is faulty, or you've set the wrong folder.

Try to move the content of your VST folder to a temporary folder, and start Live. If it works, it means one of your plugins causes the trouble, and then, move back the VSTs to the right folder by small groups, and restart Live each time. You should be able to find out which one to take away.

If the above did not work, maybe you simply set your whole hard drive as the VST folder, in which case you'll have to delete the Preferences.cfg file, that you'll find there:

* Windows: C:\Documents and Settings\your user name\Application Data\Ableton\Live x.xx\Preferences
* Mac OS X: /Library/Preferences/Ableton

Then, open Live, set again your Preferences, the right Library path (you'll have to create a temporary one on the first reopening of Live), and the right VST folder.

For the beta, look at the top post of this section of the forum, it announces the beta and gives you a download link.
