REASON 4 - Propellerheads finally announce!!
Re: re: Reason 4...
I dont know man, I have the whole NI Komplete bundle and there have been so many great synths developed over time - even the Reaktor User ones - that I'm all synthed outheadquest wrote:forge wrote: well that's it really - because all the developments seem to be aimed at people using it standalone, they never seem to advance it for people who use it with other hosts etcDo you really think that having THOR available in Live 6 isn't any advancement? (just one example)
of course if you have Reson I guess the upgrade is a no brainer, but for those of us who dont (I sold it after I beta tested v3 and was underwhelmed) then it's not essential
I sequence in Reason... sometimes.
Actually, I think the new sequencer looks awesome! The stuff loaded in the new floating toolbar thing in particular - in essence there's the equivalent of a whole pile of MIDI effects right there ready to use
Way beyond the existing "change events" menu.

I just got the email from P'head inviting me to download the beta for testing. Nice... BUT it seems we must uninstall Reason 3 in order to take part
Tricky.... I still wanna make music during the next two months...

Yes - just a shame that by the time they get around implementing and releasing - the world has moved on - alot.sbyrd wrote:looks good to me.
the fact that they added the regroove mixer shows that they are listening.
Its still one of the quickest and simplest software sequencers to work with.sbyrd wrote:although why they still bother with the sequencer is strange.
do people actually use the sequencer in reason?
Though, I would be *much* more keen on using its compoents at combinator level inside a DAW like Live. Now if combinators could be VST wrapped - then suddenly Reason becomes very interesting again instead of just being an esoteric and fun curiosity thats out of tune with the real world.
I still dont understand why they wont do this - it would open up such a huge market to them and how many ex reasons users are there around who moved on to pure VSTs hosts because they hated rewire, and because even rewire didnt provide the kind of integration they wanted?
The age old excuse about not doing VST hosting was down to some aspect of the agreement with steinberg to get rewire support into Cubase (if they wrould do it, but you mustnt later compete with us and become a full DAW), but since then the world has move on alot - VST and VSTi has taken off alot - rewire hasnt changed in any useful manner in all that time and compared to full VST hosting - its a complete pain in the ass.

Well, you say that, but while people like Black Eyed Peas / etc are using it onstage, I guess it definitely does have a tuneful part to play in the real world stillKhazul wrote: ... Mainly I was hoping for a new Rewire from the Props.
Say the ability to rewire Live into DP or Logic and still host AU's.
Reason is a great DAW, but long in the tooth, and in need of new ways to talk to the host DAW when rewired. The fact that in OSX you can use a couple third party applications to "rewire" Live and Logic for instance together and allow them both to host plug ins makes me wish rewire was updated.

I believe this is actually an Ableton limitation, not caused by ReWire...Machinesworking wrote:Mainly I was hoping for a new Rewire from the Props.

Certainly with VSTs this is the case - other programmes happily host VST instruments and effects when in ReWire slave mode (e.g. ACID, Project 5, FL Studio all do this). It's only Live that cannot do this.

Reason is perfectly good as a standalone package - I dont think anyone will dispute that - its integration where its problems start and why alot of people I know who used to use it no longer do so.
I can use a hardware synth or hardware workstation in a *more* integrated manner with Live than I can reason ffs! Maybe I just have a rather advance way of working with and inegrating hardware - who knows - I rather doubt it though - I dont think they way I use hardware with Live is any different to anyone else. (???)

Well, it means that contrary to your point, Reason IS being used in the real world, assuming that you include major acts in the real worldKhazul wrote:And that means what?headquest wrote:Well, you say that, but while people like Black Eyed Peas / etc are using it onstage, I guess it definitely does have a tuneful part to play in the real world stillKhazul wrote: ... So far as I can tell, Reason integrates better than hardware in Live 6. In terms of MIDI + Audio track, they are the same. But the automation within Clip Envelopes seems far better implemented for Reason's devices than for hardware synths where I believe you pretty much need to code the MIDI cc values yourself...?I can use a hardware synth or hardware workstation in a *more* integrated manner with Live than I can reason ffs! oh man - tell that to the covert ops - you can do a hell of a lot with Live + Racks + Ableton instrumentsFledz wrote:Thor, Subtractor and Maelstrom all boxed into a combinator in many different variations is much more than Live can offer in terms of synths. It's more than enough for me to rewireforge wrote:well that's it really - because all the developments seem to be aimed at people using it standalone, they never seem to advance it for people who use it with other hosts etcFledz wrote: On a side not, why does everyone complain as if they are just going to use Reason. As far as I know, most people here have Live so if you do get Reason, there's your dream combination right there. I'm fine with people pointing out things but at least do it like you are reviewing the product, not just ranting about it.
in fact I have barely used anything but Live in ages
anyway, I'm really not here trying to cane reason - I cut my teeth on it
I'm just surprised there still isnt a way to use the maelstrom filters on audio routed from Live Clips for example and I think it would have been awesome if they did what FLStudio did and provided everything as plug-ins
if it's just an upgrade for you - go for it, but for me there isn much appeal in Reason
aye, if you've ever listened to anything from Claude Von Stroke / Justin Martin / any of the Dirty Bird artists pretty much.. you are listening to music produced solely in Reason.headquest wrote:Well, you say that, but while people like Black Eyed Peas / etc are using it onstage, I guess it definitely does have a tuneful part to play in the real world stillKhazul wrote: ...
