i'm attempting my first trials in recording vocals live into live 5 via a presonus firebox. i'm finding a substantial amount of "tape hiss" when i record, and have tried various microphones, all with similiar hiss.
how can i go about minimizing this without hurting the volume of the vocals?
i am new to music/sound completely, so if its an easy eq or something, please let me know as well.
thanks!
R.
Mic Recording Hiss
Make sure you're connected to the 'mic' input and not 'line' (different levels)
Cross examine... I mean check those mics for hiss on other audio interfaces....
And also... when recording... try not to over-use the preamp gain... (1:00-2:00 is the Max. for me)...monitor the inputs and check for hiss...
Make a conclusion...It's either the mic or the audio interface...(...or you've been recording with the AC on...)
I found that if I track with peaks that reach -6db then all is good...
