Hey, since we're all a bunch of bitching faggot hippies (myself included), look at this website. It's very interesting, and a great read:

http://www.lifeaftertheoilcrash.net

It's a little alarmist and apocalyptic, but it's also very well conceived and researched. Because of this site, and if shit does indeed go sour in 30 years, I'm moving back to the bush (Alaska backcountry), and building a cabin. Subsistence living, baby. Give me a rifle, a fishing rod, a knife, a good shovel, and 30 years of iodine tablets.

while I totally see that - and I have kind of expected something like that my whole life withouth knowing anything about peak oil etc, I also get the feeling it wont be so drastic - certainly turbulent, but I think we have got to a point technologically where we will be able to come up with alternatives before we end up in this "post industrial stone age"

they were saying that banking system is totally dependent on oil - that wasnt the case 100 years ago and there were still obscenely wealthy bankers

as long as there are humans alive there will be greed, and as long as there is greed there will be people wanting to exploit mass production methods, which will require alternatives to oil

what? they base the climate change on this "Average temperature" therefore it doesnt make sense.

Ill be more clear

Global warming=increase in global temperature

global temperature= totally nonsensical because its not a homogenius system

therefore global warming=totally nonsensical
I'm still not convinced that you're right. Temperature averages everywhere are up, the polar ice caps are decreasing in size, and weather patterns and other cycles (like the amount of algae in the seas) are changing because of this - I am quite sure those are all undisputable facts (the dispute is about whether or not those changes are effected by human waste).

I'm not sure what you mean by 'not a homogenous system' - noone is saying that the temperature is the same all over the globe? - but I don't think your 'average phone number' analogy holds water. If the temperature averages measured in Greenland, Denmark, Egypt, South Africa and Antartica (random names, I don't have data handy) have all been rising over the past ten-twenty, then it does indeed make sense to say that 'global temperature averages are up'.

Well I coulndn't give you a perfect definition, but a homogenius system is one where the object/substance contains similar properties in every part. Every part of it has the same composition, the same pressure, etc.. Everything is constant throughout. The earth however, is not, and there are varying pressures and temperatures throughout the entire thing. So according to the definition of temperature, you cannot have a global temperature.

This article articulates the words of the physicist whose brainchild this is much better than I have.
