Does macbook pro 2.2 GHz have any problem with live (any)?.

Post by gamuso » Fri Jun 22, 2007 2:47 pm

Hello, I have to configurate a set for a live show. I´d like to know if anyone knows how good do the new macbook pro (the 2.2 GHz. with 2 G. RAM) work with live 6 and a fire audio interface (like M-audio firewire 1814 or the Motu Traveler).

I´d would be great if any one can tell me about any bug or problem related to incompatibilities or something else. In order to buy the best computer-musical set posible.

Thanks a lot From Spain!

satisfied user of a mbp c2d 2.16ghz.

it even dropped it last week from about 1.20 meters onto a stone floor after a gig sort of flat landing... it's right bottom corner, where the cd drive sits is bent about 1-1.5 mm upwards and the maschine is still working without a hitch.

You would benefit from a bit more juice with the dual core support, but if you're just DJing with it, then stick with your PowerBook and maybe Abelton 5.2

But, if you're doing some hardcore producing, then definitely get the MBP 2.2GHz. I have a 2.16GHz Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro, that and Ableton 6 work together like a dream. Never any glitches (unless I ask it to!)

...what about the audio interface?

Post by gamuso » Sun Jun 24, 2007 8:27 pm

Hello, it is for a live music show, and I really need power and being sure all the time.

So, what about the audio interface... wich one would be the more compatible actually?.

The motu traveller, the M-audio firewire1850, the presonus...?

Thank you!

My MOTU Ultralite has been PERFECT!...NO PROBLEMS at all.

MOTU has a damn good Rep around here, very stable.

As for those other's,....I wouldn't bother JMHO.

Well, I do seem to have a problem. Just bought a Macbook Pro, unlocked Live, plugged in my presonus firepod, and configured my ins and outs. Suddenly my CPU metre leapt up and started jigging around the 50% mark, while Live did NOTHING! no audio, no samples, nothing.

I took off the stereo inputs and this helped a bit, but still if I want to run four mono inputs simultaneously that's more than half my CPU, if I want to run eight I dread to think if it could hold together.

Is there anyway to allocate more CPU to Live? or other solution to this issue...

I'm using the new 2.2 GHz MBP and in bootcamp I'm getting a lot of graphical glitches. If I open any live menus or plugins menus, they randomly disappear. The only workaround is if I hook up an external monitor, places the plugins on the second monitor and leave the main ableton window on the fist monitor. Everything seems okay with live 6 in OS X, but I haven't tested as extensively

have you clicked use multiprocessor support?

MBP 2.16 w/ Live 6 and MOTU UltraLite - PERFECT.

You should not have any problems. Bootcamp? Jeez - stay away man. No need to go through all that. What's available on Windows that you need that is not on OSX?

My friend runs Wndows on his MacBook but neither of us know why because he always boots up OSX for FianlCut, Lightroom and all his apps. I think he uses Windows for iTunes - lol. ???
