The Lemur --- although crazy expensive --- is cool because you can create your own way of controlling your DAW (or crazy Reaktor path or MAX/MSP thing --- or all of that), but all Dexter does is create a (albeit nicely multi-touch) different way of controlling the same thing you see on screen. It's fixed (sorta), just like your DAW is. It's just different and you can stroke it lovingly. You'd get more use out of a multi-touch monitor of your actual DAW's interface (ask the guys who run Live with a touch panel).

I don't see how that's worth $US1,000 MORE than the Lemur for what's essentially a pre-programmed Lemur that you can't program yourself (not to the extent you can the Lemur).

Am I missing something? Even if it's the functionality I described above PLUS the Lemur functionality, $3500 is a LOT of scratch for that.

Hell, I'm still waiting for real Ableton support for my (bargain-priced, in comparison) Faderfox controllers. I'd prefer Ableton pick the low-hanging fruit first.

I thought the price difference between the two was more like 300 bucks, no ?

By the way, there's no way a multitouch panel of the actual DAW interface would be more practical. An interface made for using a mouse is just not fit at all for finger use, and vice versa. Hell, the transport buttons are 16x16 pixels, this would be terrible to trigger with fingers, and the faders are way too small for sufficient precision.
The way I see it, you have to change the ergonomics and make an intermediate interface if you want to switch from mouse use to finger use.

2350 € for dexter

2150 € for lemur

here

dexter can become a lemur

lemur can become a dexter too, with optionnal firmware

so dexter will be the ultimate polyvalent controler ever made

I would love to see Jazzmutant and Ableton working together. It would only prove to advance all the products and benefit both companies.
