Faderfox LC2 vs. Evolution X-session

get 6 x-sessions. if they where similar in price, then the faderfox, but for that kind of difference in $, is it worth it. unless you know you'll end up buying the faderfox anyway - that's a gut feeling, something only you can know.

Yeah, I've got the X-session and it is perfect.But in the past 24 hours I heard one person talk about "moving up" from it and seen a lot of chatter about those Faderfoxes here on the forum.

The X-session is great esp. for the price. But I'm trying to see if these Faderfoxes have a reason for their popularity and price aside from being Ableton's buddies.

I've owned most of them, and I've finally settled on the LC2 (along with an LD2 for triggering and controlling dummy clip effects). I use them when playing LivePAs with Live and when DJing with Live. DJing (which I'm doing more of lately) is why I sold my LV2 and picked up an LC2 (the crossfader).

I've gone through a LOT of different controllers over the last couple of years, from cheap to expensive (though not a Lemur yet), but the faderfoxen are the ones I work with the best.

Just my two cents, but I REALLY love the faderfoxen, so I thought I'd speak up in support of them.

Okay, it's mostly a feel thing, but I'll try:

Very compact. Solid build quality. Really nice feel to all the moving parts.

I like that I can navigate and control my entire set with just the LV2 (or LC2). The layout and control functionaliy is (for me) very intuitive. They were obviously designed by somebody who knows Live intimately.

A lot of people who've tried them and NOT liked them see this as a drawback (or a deal killer): you either have to use their meticulously setup templates or meticulously set up your own after sussing out how they output MIDI, but you can get some pretty fine-grained control over Live with them. In fact, I really got to understand the ins and outs of Live's MIDI mapping by dissecting the faderfox LV2 template. It's worth putting in the effort.

All that being said, I think it comes back to feel, too. You could probably set up a Behringer BCF + BCR to do pretty much the same thing as an LC2 + LD2 for just over the price of one fadefox. But, the faderfoxes just FEEL right to me.

neither. i have an LV2... it's good but it's not great. while it's a really well designed unit, its size is a big drawback. Ideally I'd like 6 faders with 24 knobs, not 6 faders with a community use of 4 knobs.

push encoders are probably the best thing on this unit.

however, it's basically impossible to EQ 2 tracks at the same time, and if you select a track with your mouse, your Faderfox still needs to manuever to the track (which can fuck you up... many times i've messed with track 2 instead of 3, etc.).

I've come to terms with its limitations, and I'm also set on getting a BCR or perhaps an LD2 (most likely BCR). I don't trigger the clips via the Faderfox anymore, but I still use it for volume levels, sends, and EQ.
