[OT] The Simpsons sucks

Post by beats me » Sun Jul 01, 2007 9:50 pm

I've seen about 100 episodes of the Simpsons which is about 0.001% of it's episodes and I really don't get it's fanatical fan base, never did. I think South Park came along and kicked it's ass and I think even Family Guy came along and kicked it's ass. I know some fanboys are going to sound off saying The Simpsons set the groundwork for all other animated prime time shows. So what? That doesn't mean it's the most perfect show ever devised.

I also don't like a lot of the series on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. You can't turn on any of those shows and just "get it", and it's not because it's highbrow humor. You have to regress your IQ to that of a 7-year-old who is just starting to understand sexual innuendo but still appreciates fart jokes. But I know a lot of people who watch that time block and think it's the greatest thing ever.

What's your opinion on The Simpsons and prime time/adult animation series?

I used to love Simpsons but it did get old the last few years. Southpark just keeps getting funnier and funnier though

I think South Park had a few years that weren't that funny or it just got old to me, but the last couple of seasons have been great.

Family Guy on the other hand used up its moments during the original run. When it came back it just didn't live up to the standard.

The writing on Family Guy is very formulated and predictable as pointed out in a brilliant episode of South Park, but I still think it's funny. I think even the newer episodes are funnier than most of the Simpsons episodes I have seen but I agree they aren't as good as the old episodes.

Simpsons "were" genius

Post by grassnose » Mon Jul 02, 2007 1:17 am

Oh man, the simpsons were sooo sooo soooo genius in the late 1990s. Check out some of the episodes written by conan o'brian....pretty much all of the late 90 episodes were genius.

the chili pepper episode is freakin' gold!

Totally agree, the last two seasons were totally on, but for awhile it was kinda lame. I could never get into family guy though...

The simpsons stopped being funny to me in 1993

Bart Simpson a bad ass???? Yeah, him compared to Cartman (ie Cartoon Wars pt 2)

anywayz - I'm over South Park as well though - I've seen every episode well over 50 times each (seriously)

I'll watch the new epsiodes but ....

no way man you suck, seriously there has to be something wrong with you if you don't find the episodes of the glory days funny

I grew up with that show and I am sort of offended

for south park kicking the simpsons ass you must be out of your mind, south park is popular in the united states and that is pretty much it, the simpsons are a global phenomenon

Family guy is for people who smoke bongs for a living

so you like south park, but don't like other cartoons that also make you regress you iq and 'appreciate fart jokes'? on that topic, i can't think of a single adult swim show that has had a fart joke, other than one episode of sealab. honestly, if you don't find most of adult swim's shows funny, you just might have the iq of a 7 year old, because it is some of the sharpest, funniest humor on television.

I don't like any of them. Too over the top (relativly.....progressing from simpsons upward).....then again, some of the "old school" cartoons were regarded as very risqué in their time.

However, I do draw the line at cartman telling a dirty joke about a mother, taking a shit, while the baby is being pushed back in, while the dad fucks the baby in the ass and then cums all over the place. That is by far the most disturbing thing I've ever heard/seen...........

Oh, I take that back......I did kinda like "Aqua Teen Hunger Force" at first.....it was nice and odd.....but not too freaky.

Oh, and I liked powerpuff girls.....(let the jokes begin)

Dexter.........eemmmmmm.........eh, so so......

Sponge bob? fine till the "stoners" ruined it..............

Oh gawd! I suck too! I liked ren and stimpy.......er, the first season......too wierd after that.........

At least I never liked beavis and butthead........I hated the first blurp from "liquid TV".......oh, I'm dooooomed!

The mid-90s episodes were great, but ever since about 2000 it's just been crap. Even the animation quality has seemed to go downhill. I mean, I saw a fairly recent episode where Homer gets addicted to morphine!
