headphone/cue prob

Post by foolio » Mon Jul 02, 2007 5:35 pm

hey everyone,

i got a problem getting my cue function to work,
i have a realtek onboard 7.1, and i can manage all my outputs, so for instance i can have 7 line outs if i want...
so, i connected my amp to 1 output, and set it as line out
and i connected my headphones to another output and selected it as headphone ( and also tried it to put it as line out , no difference )

my problem is, when i set my cue out to 1 and my master out to 2 in ableton, then it puts my cue out trough left channel of my speakers AND headset, and out 2 is right channel,

i'd like to have cue out to my headphones ( L & R ) and master out to my speakers ( L & R ) wich is pretty obvious hehe,

i've tried all the settings i could think of but nothing seems to work the way it is suposed to...

if any1 knows what i'm doing wrong, i'd be so happy if i could fix this prob, ( cause 'dj ing ' like this isnt really working ) ,

and if 1/2 is 1 output, then don't i supposed to have 3/4 for the other?

if you need any more info or screenshots, feel free to ask

thx in advance, cause i'm clueless tbh

grtz,
lorenzo

Hello,

In Live, 1 and 2 refer to the left and right of the first pair of outputs. Since the Master output is stereo, 1&2 should be used there. What you would need, is to have a 3&4 output, to use for the cue out.

I'm not sure about you soundcard, but the place to check is the Preferences, Audio tab. There is an 'Output Config' button. Click it, and enable '3&4' if available. If it is not available, it could mean that your soundcard either does not support multiple output (but duplicates one output to all jacks), or that you need to use another driver. You should make some research and see if there is an ASIO driver that allows multiple outputs with that card. ASIO drivers offer lower latency.

hey,
thx for the reply !
i tried the aisio drivers, now i have 3&4 to select, even 5678 :D, but still the same effect, i think i'll just buy myself an audiocard with two individual stereo outputs, but no luck so far founding such one :? ,
could you point me in any direction? or antything to connect trough usb is just as fine for me, as long as i can get this working, really biting my nails to finally start working properly ...

thx in advance !

Hi,

If outputs 3&4 are enabled in the Audio Preferences, you'll have to select 1&2 for the Master out, and 3&4 for the Cue out, on the Master Track. Then, identify which physical plug they correspond, and plug the headphones and speakers in.

i'm glad i got it this far, only 1 knotch left hehe, i'll keep looking..

but anyway, could you recommend an audiocard ? kinda tired of the onboard stuff anyway...

thx amaury for the help so far ! atleast now i can mix a bit hehe
