as of now 13 people have viewed my post and won't help with the simplest of questions. How and where do i find the complete live project to move it to an external drive without leaving anything behind? PLEASE!!! Anyone? Geesh...

Hi,

The safest, is to save your Live set to a new location, so it is saved as a project, in a new Project folder. Then, use the File MAnager to 'collect and save' the files you need, or directly use the 'Collect and save all' command in the File menu, so everything will be included in the project folder, including the files from the Library.

Collect all and save is what I'd do too. There's ~4 pages in the manual on the file management system, it's well worth a read. The most important thing is to ALWAYS let the file manager move your files. You can copy a dir with a Live set in it to another location, but let Live handle your files.

It might be worthwhile for you to play with a set that you won't mind losing to see how it all works, I still don't really get it all.

I look at this forum quite a bit, but only post occasionally. When I do theyre only short posts usually, cos I neither have the time nor knowledge to post long posts.
You seem to manage to get the time to appear on nearly every thread...
Im not dissing you, I think its amazing that there are people out there willing to give so much help to noobs like me.
Are you gainfully employed do you just surf forums all day... how do you get any music done? Do you ever sleep?
If you reply to this post, it prooves that you look at just about every single thing that happens and you are indeed an all seeing all knowing being.

Of course I checked this thread, I wondered how the OP was getting on.

Yes I have a job, I'm an electrical engineer by day I sit on front of a computer at work and keep a browser open. When I want a break I'd rather read here than strike up a conversation with a coworker. I get good reviews, meet deadlines and make money for the company.

Today I'm at home for a national holiday, I'm downloading a bunch of PureMagnetik stuff, downloading, waiting, surfing, waiting, reading...

I do music just about every night, I don't have kids and I'm not into TV. 12-13 posts a day is not that much if you look at other forums. I play guitar, do the synth/drum programming and destroy vinyl, of course I make music. Because I use Live at home nightly I'm pretty much always in front of a computer.

I read here a lot because there's a lot to learn from it, for example the PureMagnetik stuff I just bought and am downloading. I've also come to learn Live very well by reading and helping other people, it's the only DAW I use anymore. I think it's great the rep the forum has for helping people. Frankly I think it's kinda shitty when people see an obvious question but won't take 30 seconds to tell a n00b to 'set monitor to IN' while some guy is going nuts trying to learn Live.

I'm not saying posting that much is completely healthy but it is definitely for the most part constructive. I learn new shit all the time and have helped literally hundreds of people.

I REALLY wish there wasn't a post count, I don't want a rep, I don't want to be known, I don't want to be taken seriously, I just want to talk about Live, and the occasional OT insanity.

I would start a Tone Deft appreciation thread, but you probly wouldnt actually like that very much. Ive lost count of the number of times ive read one of your threads thats helped me indirectly by answering someones elses stoopid question.
You can allways say RTFM to a noob, but I agree, its nice to be nice.
I hereby resolve to help more noobs out. Only thing is, I dont really know that much myself so my help skills are limited, but every once in a while..... Like you said though, theres a huge ammount to be learned on this forum. Amazing really when you think about it. Where would we be without the interweb?

I agree with that. I wonder why people bother to say "RTFM" or whatever, what a waste of time!! I think people do that just to prove that they know how to do something that other people don't. If you don't want to help someone just ignore their post!

Something I try to do is point them to the relevant place in the manual - like "That is covered on page 14." It accomplishes 2 things - helps a noob find something they may not know enough about to know WHERE in the manual to look, and reminds them the manual should be a constant companion in the initial learning phases.

yeh i read this forum pretty much every day too. i like it better than the manual, which i have also read. and the ableton power book too.

i only post now and then, if i can help someone with a query then i definitely reply. i just wish i knew as much as some people here (and some people know shedloads) so that i could help more often.

i quite like replying to those 'whats your favourite song etc' type threads, its nice to find that some people here like the same stuff that i do, apart from ableton.

when threads come up about midi bits and pieces i tend to go for them as detailed midi is something im still struggling with.
