So when did it become trendy to hate Americans so much?

Cut us a break. There are some good people here. As soon as they get fed up enough, things will change.

It's just natural. We are the only superpower. We probably have too much global influence. This leads to resentment when people start feeling like America's interests are infringeing upon their environment/culture.

In 50 years, everyone will hate China!

BTW- In my experience, Americans, as people, aren't disliked. I was just recently all over Europe, and everyone was super nice to me. I didn't get a cross look/comment the whole time. I wasn't sure that would be the case due to some things I hear on this and other forums. As usual, I think you have the vocal minority.

West coast and East coast have little to do with what's wrong with the U.S. That said, Texas has a lot to answer for.

I was making a record in 1984 and received a package at the studio. My girlfriend was with me while I opened it and out came 10 Missing Persons t-shirts and a card. I opened the the card and it was from Dale with a few cute words, a phone number and a kiss in lipstick from Dale's juicy lips. I went to my car and drove with my girl to get a bite. She was upset, dogging me and then crying. She kept eyeing the card and never let up. To get her to stop and prove my devotion, I took the card and tore it up into pieces and through it out the car window. She quit crying and hooked me up with amazing sex that afternoon. Anyway, that week my band was booked to do 5 shows opening for MP. Of course my girlfriend made ever show.

there was a program on TV here about the justice system there and how "they call it capital punishment because only those without capital get punished" - basically how there is no justice for poor people as there is no real legal aid to speak of - loads of terrible stories of people being executed just because they couldnt afford a decent lawyer - one guy telling how his lawyer fell asleep and the prosecution spun it that it was to get sympathy from the jury

they were saying how the richest country in the world is more like a 3rd world country where legal rights are concerned foor poor people (and of course health is the same)

Hehe - that's cos you don't understand what people say about you in their own languages:)
Suit #1: I mean, have you got any insight as to why a bright boy like this would jeopardize the lives of millions?
Suit #2: No, sir, he says he does this sort of thing for fun.

I can't disagree with that. But, in weak defense, 300 million is tough to manage I suppose. Anti corruption and government loses it's teeth (or its mind) when the numbers get up there. China, Russia, Rome back in the day. I see myself living in hawaii in a few years. That should do it.
