BCF-2000 knob sensitivity/range question
Hi.
I have done a good search of the forums here, and I can't find any help on this problem -
Could anyone please tell me, is there any way to get the knobs on a BCF/BCR controller to maybe operate so that 12 o'clock, rather than the max position, would be 127, so as to allow quicker tweaking?
I find the knobs too slow to really tweak the likes of a filter cutoff..
Any BCF/BCR owners know what I mean? ... or maybe is there something you can do within live to fix this problem?

I've read some stuff about dumping the BCR's settings as into your computer as sysex and then editing that is a code editor changing values to change the acceleration of the knobs... don't know if that will help you find this out but I could never get my head round it!

Hello!
(I found out about this a little while ago having had the same problem myself. I posted it back then, but here it is for you!)
Here's a bluffers guide to how to make your BCR2000 rotary encoders accelerate when moved quickly!
Step 1.
Use Midi-Ox or equivalent to capture a sysex bulk dump of the preset on your BCR2000 you want to modify. (To send it, hold down edit and press preset -> on the BCR)
Step 2.
Save this sysex bulk dump (probably in the region of 15000 bytes).
Step 3.
Open it up with a Hexidecimal editor like XVI32 (which is freeware).
Step 4.
Look down the ASCII text side of the screen within the sysex data for the encoder name you want to modify. E.g. if you want to do this to encoder 35, then hunt for 'encoder 35' within the text. There is a 'find' tool within XVI32 thankfully!
Step 5.
Find 'resolution 96 96 96 96' within the parameters relating to your encoder number - i.e. towards the end of the other details relating to that encoder. Modify this to read 96 192 384 768 (you'll have to insert characters in order for this to fit) instead of 96 96 96 96 Now do this for the other encoders you want to accelerate.
(Note: Apparently combinations using 1536 and 3072 can be used too but that's probably only useful with 14 bit controllers)
Step 6.
Save this back as a .syx file.
Step 7.
Transmit this file to the BCR2000 using Midi Ox etc. and store this on the BCR.
Step 8.
The encoders you did this to will now accelerate if you move them quickly but work normally (although a little faster maybe) if you move them slowly!
All the best,
Robin

Wow this is excellent, the action on the knobs on bcf2000 is way too slow. I cant wait to try this

Yes - it is fantastic (and genuinely works) and totally transforms the BCR2000! It's a shame that they never developed BCEdit (to my knowledge at least) to be able to access this hidden acceleration function. Silly, really, as the encoders go way too slow without it.
Have fun with your new accelerating encoders! (Also check out Namihei's Mackie Control patches if you haven't already - http://www.geocities.jp/mackicrokontrol ... live5.html which is another great thing for BCR2000 / Live).

one more thing... seeing as I seem to be among some BCF experts here
, is there a way to set things up so that the buttons below the rotarys on the BCF truly relate to the buttons they are mapped to in Live?
Like, say you want to use the two buttons above each fader for solo and mute, you really want the light on the button to relate to the state of the live channel. But I could only ever get the mode where the button toggles on and off to be sometimes what is the state of the Live solo/mute, and sometimes the opposite.. know what I mean? .. so I settled for just having the light on the BCF to come on while its depressed, but thats not ideal... Is there a way??
But, feck it, I'm happy enough with my newly accelerated knobs! .. Its tweekin' time!!

Ok lads/lassies... I'm a bit stuck now..
I just noticed, when I loaded Live to properly check out these new accelerated knobs,
the other controllers on the BCF (faders and buttons) are switched off. But when I program them back to On (CC), the rotaries are back to their slow state again.
Whats up this this? Any ideas?

Still would like to know if anyone has a solution to the button state problem tho

Hmm. If you map the top row of buttons to the mute buttons, and select bcf midi in for remote in the midi prefs and bcf midi out also, those should map perfectly. The bottom row of buttons mapped to solo dont work right away. You need to change val2 on the bcf to 127.HolySpiritSoldier wrote:one more thing... seeing as I seem to be among some BCF experts here, is there a way to set things up so that the buttons below the rotarys on the BCF truly relate to the buttons they are mapped to in Live?

Does anyone know if we can we can change the encoder action in mackie emulation mode on the bcf?
