I always prefer infinite rotaries as knobs but these are more expensive
e.g. novation SL series.
If this is not important for your needs u can save a lot thanks to live's instant mapping which can be hacked in the User Remote Scritpts so that a simple (read: cheap) 8 knob controller can be"banked", meaning that it's 8 knobs can control (for example) 8 parameters for the first of Impulse's drum pads, and when a "bank up" button is pushed it will control the 8 parameters for the 2nd of Impulse's drum pads, etc
For an excellent and VERY easy to follow tutorial see this YouTube tutorial video

if your gonna keep your keystation i'd get a trigger finger m8,
then you'll have 8 knobs 4 sliders 16 pads for only £110
coupled with ya keystation....... not a bad set up.

Check out the new Edirol PCR-800. I bought it when it first came out and I'm very pleased with it.ryansantos wrote:i have an m-audio keystation unfortunately it doesn't have any "knobs."

You can save a bit by getting a model with less keys (PCR-300, or PCR-5000).

The top panel of the PCR offers a massive amount of assignable hardware control: 9 knobs, 3 buttons, 9 sliders, and 18 velocity-sensitive pads. There’s even a DJ-style crossfader. And if that’s not enough, there are 4 more assignable buttons on the left-side panel, above the pitch bend/mod lever. Each controller can be custom-assigned to transmit nearly any MIDI data you wish, such a notes, Control Change (CC) messages, or Program Change (PC) messages.
For foot control, the side panel has two pedal jacks. Connect an optional footswitch (such as the Roland DP-2 or BOSS FS-5U) to the HOLD jack to use as a keyboard sustain pedal, and an optional expression pedal (BOSS EV-5 or EV-7) to the EXPRESSION jack for realtime volume control. If desired, alternative MIDI control assignments can be set for these jacks to control other functions.
