Live ReWired into Pro Tools or Logic?

Post by cameronparkins » Thu Jul 05, 2007 7:26 pm

Hey guys,

I've been fooling around w/ Live for the past couple months and I absolutely love it. Its phenomenal for remixing/DJing and I'm also loving what it does for my songwriting side.

In terms of recording, I'm more experienced with ProTools than I am Live and am finding it difficult to mix things straight into Live. Live seems very capable of doing a good mix, but I think in the end I want to ReWire it into either ProTools or Logic as I find they have more easily accessible mixing options. I also have the Waves Ren Max plug-in bundle. Oh and I'm using a MacBook Pro + MBox 2.

I want to keep Live as a midi sequencer as I use it to run my outboard synths/drum machines.

My question essentially then is what, in your opinion, is the better platform? I have Pro Tools LE 7.3 and Logic Express. If you were me, which would you use? I have little to no/experience with Logic (got it from a good friend who didn't need it anymore as he was upgrading to Pro) but wouldn't be opposed to learning it.

Logic is better for midi than protools. If you only want to do a mixdown I would bounce the tracks to audio from Live then import them into Protools and go from there. If you want a better sequencer, rewire through Logic though Express is really limited.

I haven't written music in Live yet so I can't really compare them. Logic is great as a midi sequencer. I use Live for my live dj sets. I write music in Logic.
