so i decided to push music harder and move to the uk...

Post by thekillingtree » Sat Jul 07, 2007 5:09 am

so i was wondering for any of those UK live folks if there was any advice you would like to give a guy moving to London? the company i work for is in east london which is ideally where i would like to transfer to but, getting a work visa seems next to impossible, but idk. i don't know anyone who has moved over there. anybody ever move from the US to the UK?

i decided i was going to stop letting myself get tied down by my brain and do something ive always wanted to do. after losing my fiance, failing my last semester and quitting all music projects for the past few months, (this may explain things to some of you who have talked with me) i decided to learn from my fathers mistakes and push for that extra mile. i can finish school wherever i want for the next 2 years at least (for my mba) and then well, law school i will have to find one...

one thing though, im not really excited about buying all new guitar amps and such... 8)

sadly you are not an uneducated immigrant who will come to this country and rip it for everything they can take. If your black your chances of gaining permanent entry is much higher if your gay and black and muslim, well you will be sitting pretty and you will be totally above the law. If your white and you have a brain then im afraid you wont stand a chance in hell of getting any long lasting visa or resident permit.
why would you want to move to a police state which has 4.5million cctv cameras watching your every move. this works out at one camera for every 14 people in the land. more than the whole of europe and more than the US. why would you want to move to a country that will tax you and tax you and further tax you keeping you constantly on edge and obidient until the day you die and even then they will still take a large chunk of any pittance you had the day you died. Why would you want to move to a country that constantly apologises for murderers rapists and child killers and of course the muslim population who never ever do anything wrong. You will move to a country with a population as ignorant as the deep south of the the US and who have only one thing on their mind me me me, and what about me. You will also mov eto a country where the women hate men. yes I am serious. Women in this country think they can do anything they like just because they may at some point have a child. This is a sick fucking shithole of a country

The only good thing here are the talented and original electronic music makers and producers.
DONT move here

You should really check out some other places in the world if you think the UK is bad. You really have some issues.

I moved here from the US. IMO, it's a great place to live. But like anywhere, it's only as good as you make it, and takes a bit of effort to get the best out of it.

I live an hour from London, 2 minutes from the forest, and 45 minutes from a major airport. Flights around Europe are dirt-cheap. I flew to Nice for the day with my girlfriend on Wednesday. It cost less than £100 ($200) for the whole day for both of us.

Crime is virtually non-existant where I live, and regarding women hating men, perhaps it depends on the man. I don't think I'd be attracted to negative, bitter, hostile, paranoid, judgmental people, either!

The cost of living IS generally higher than in most parts of the US, but to me, that's a small price to pay for quality of life.

On the downside, it's getting more and more US-like here all the time. Hmmm... New Zealand is looking pretty sweet...

I'm actually considering going/moving there next year around April or May. After living in Japan I'm used to getting price gouged on everything! Is that a bonus? :D

i think the uk can be a blast, as said, it's what you make it....
but having toured there quite extensively over the years at this point, i can say without a doubt that if you are a musician and would like to be treated like a piece of shit and ripped off, the uk is top out of the 26 countries i've hit so far.
great festivals though, if you are into that sort of thing.

can you not get a position at this East London firm as an 'intern' - I think you call it that? - but with some sort of agreement that they'll put you on the payroll if you're actually benefitting the firm...or something?

Alternatively you might be able to get a visa to study here, because our universities LOVE overseas students...maybe you could discuss this with the firm - as long as they agree to pay you for the time you work instead of study?

ps, whichever route you take, and watever you think of mercyplease's views - it will definitely help if you're not part of the invisible majority, ie, white male in good health... if you can tick a few boxes it definitely won't do any harm

ps, living in London definitely isn't cheap but you can reduce your living expenses by living away from the centre and choosing the right places to eat, etc. I lived and worked in the centre for four years. If you can get here your social life will explode and you'll meet people from EVERYWHERE on the planet. It'll change your life!

Maybe you should paint yourself black, dress like muslim gay and you will be happy too, judging form what and how you wrote education and brains - you are there already.
I never met anyone of above sort in UK-luckily they stay home and on internet only. Brits are nice and civilized, London is the greatest city in the world, in most of aspects- culture in particular.
The weather is disaster though, the only reason I couldn't live there for longer . Bring a girlfriend, you have higher chances to see Unicorn or white elephant then pretty girl there.
