Get your music on ITUNES!!!!

Post by Shaheed » Sat Jul 07, 2007 2:51 pm

Hey Everyone,

I just got a part-time gig with a company called Tunecore (http://www.tunecore.com).
Go to the website for more info then PM with your email address and I will send you a promo code to save you 10% on the the fee.

Tuncore will upload your music to:
Itunes usa
Itunes Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Japan, UK, & Europe
Napster
Rhapsody
Emusic
Yahoo music
& Zune

Also, this month you will get a FREE copy of IK Multimedia's T-racks.

Please don't get pissed at me for posting this, yes, I'll make a little money off of this, but you'll make a lot more. And yes, I am a hardcore Ableton user too.

Peace
Shaheed

Hi Shaheed,

Why can't people just upload their own music to iTunes? What is the advantage of using your service?

Thanks,

same here. it took two months to get my band's music on itunes and, when it was finally posted, they had put the songs in the wrong order, which took another month to get fixed.

Not only does it take forever and prone to error.. but the quality is horrible too.

Pretty much most of the stuff they sell is at 128k.

I bought a friend of mines release from there and I was full of critisism on the production. So then he gave me a 256k version and i was blown away by the difference.

Same thing with the latest Amon Tobin. I bought the release from there and wasn't that excited by it. Then i heard the actual CD and it came off 10 times better.

That pretty much burned me out on iTunes. I'm not paying $10USD for bad sounding tracks unless its old stuff where the production wasn't that hot anyway.

doesn´t it have something to with the quality the tracks where uploaded ?

they support some differenty formats including mp3 and aac
but the best quality supported one is apple lossless

maybe the low quality tracks where not properly uploaded ?

anyway i am very curious about the service

itunes is essentially closed to small labels, and definitely closed to individual artists. either you pay a digital distro who takes 30% or you go through tunecore for a flat fee. not saying one is better than another, its just the way it is.

I'm on itunes via CDBaby (See http://cdbaby.com/dd ). My last release in April this year went onto iTunes and was selling tracks the same month it came out. Have not had any problems at all with tracks out of order, etc..

It is the case that there is about a 30% bite when all is done.

No, places like CDBaby or Tunecore send CD to iTunes and they rip it to the quality they want. You don't get to make your own ID3 tags or anything.

I've heard that they only do greater than 128k for major labels with major artists.

mmm,
i must say i have my reservations on this...

tunecore receives the tracks in digital format and i seriously doubt they will burn all the tracks and mail them to itunes...

cdbady clearly states that they do the encoding...
How long does it take for you to send it to all the companies?
2-5 weeks, once you've given us ALL the info we need, and we've received your CD. We have to encode it into 17 different formats for 40 different companies, so that's why it takes a while. Plus we have to verify all your songwriter and publisher info is correct before we send it out into the world. Read the next question, though...
How long does it take to show up on the music services once you deliver it?
Each company is different, but in general it takes from 3 weeks minimum, to 4 months maximum. (Usually 2-3 months.) Once we send it to them, it's out of our hands and they do what they can to get it imported and active in their service. We push them to get it added as soon as possible, and they always do it as soon as they can.
nevertheless it won´t harm to just ask tunecore support about this

Right. Every company they service is different. Some REQUIRE cd, others REQUIRE it is encoded and uploaded to them.

I don't believe it is CDbaby's or Tuncores problem. A label owner I know tells me the label doesn't have a choice, itunes puts them up at 128k no matter what they send.

It would be great to have the original poster who works for Tuncore comment to confirm.

Hey,

I'm not going to debate the fidelity of Itunes downloads or the fees. That's less important to me then being on the same playing field as my favorite artists. What is not debatable is the fact, Itunes, and internet distribution in general, is the future of music distribution. Like it or not.

Personally I love vinyl and cassettes, but that's the past. Today if you don't have good internet distribution and a Myspace page you are not doing all that you can do to share your music with the world.

I'm talking about world wide distribution without the overhead (pressing CDs) or contract and you get the lion share of the profits, unlike what you would find at a label (major or indie).

Boys and girls, welcome to The Music Business 2.0

Pick your posion.

So, I could give those who are interested, 10% off.
I'm just trying to help, please take it as that.

Peace
Shaheed

iTunes does not sell MP3's or Apple Lossless files.

They only sell AAC (MPEG4 audio format) with DRM attached, and are now selling higher quality DRM free AAC files from EMI.

Tunecore has no say as to the bitrate of the files that are being sold as that is a controlled by Apple.

Tunecore is completely solid and reputable, and is probably the best way of getting you rmusic onto iTunes. Small flat fee, no onerous contract as most of the digital distributors will male you sign, and no ridiculous %.

But if people want to slag it withought doing there homework, feel free.
