it says on that page that the nord wave will replace the lead 3. probably a slight upgraded unit.
It was as if someone shook up a 6 foot can of blood soda and suddenly popped the top.

Among lots of other new features, the Nordwave can use audio samples as oscillators.
I want one really bad.

Can someone please explain what that means and what you might do with it?

I can't confirm this as "truth" but I heard a rumor that the nord had some
environmental hazards (mercury leakege) and that they had to revise the product to clear product safety laws.

Or more accurately it didn't conform to ROHS laws ...

In many key markets in the world (e.g. Europe) it's no longer legal to sell goods which use lead-based solder in their design. Many products (which were otherwise perfectly OK) have been discontinued for this reason.

I was informed by distributors that Clavia couldn't get some of the same or right parts for the NL3 anymore (it may have been the knobs, but don't quote me on it). Aside from that, I don't think they were making much, if any, money off the NL3.

I tried to own one about 4 months ago when they were discontinued, had it for about a week and then returned it. I just thought the NL2x sounded so much better, despite it's retardedly old digital interface (or lack thereof) and no patch librarian. You'd think they could just update the NL2 with infinite led knobs, patch librarian w/ USB support, and an led panel that gave patch names instead of just numbers.

But, yeah, the Wave looks pretty dope. Can't wait to try it.

Yes, indeed, costs cutting, parts (unfortunately the ones we all like most) were too expensive and it wasn't sells hit, unlike 2x.
AFAIK the new one will be cheaper then NL3 but wont have the LED knobs.
I missed G2X - also disontinued, last one sold few hours before I went to the store with cash, if you can find NL3 anywhere it is worth it, much better board then NL2. I personally find any synth without display hard to use, patches by numbers? No, thank you.

Wavetable synthesis: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wavetable
Many synthesizers actually use short samples of waveforms to create their saw, square, sine, etc. waveforms, and then run them through filters and shit to create the sounds. Wavetable synthesis uses complex waveforms rather than the simple saw, square, etc. It allows you to create more interesting sounds.

That's how I understand it. Someone correct me if I'm wrong!

I read somewhere it's going to be about 20% less than the retail for a Lead 3!
