korg ms-10 for 400? should I buy it?

Post by Johnisfaster » Mon Jul 09, 2007 12:05 am

on craigslist someone listed a korg ms-10 with 2 keys missing, they say it works fine other than that.

sounds like a great deal to me

400 is a very ok price considering a MS10 goes for about 350 here, in euros..

!! but spare parts are expensive..
maybe have a Google what 2 keys are doing these days..

if you need MIDI; Doepfer has a great MIDI>CV converter..

I probably wouldn't replace the keys actually, just do without them and use a midi>cv from one of my other keyboards

how much would a midi>cv cost me?

I guess that's 400 USD.

I have an MS10 and 2 MS20's .
the MS10 is and has always been weak. History is now trying to tell me otherwise. history is wrong and my ears and experience are correct.
It's a dull little thing in my opinion. Not all old synths are classics.
If you have another MS it extends it a little, but otherwise I'm sure you can spend 400 notes better.

I've got a nord lead 2 and a juno 106, I was thinking this might add whats missing in the modular realm. but thanks for your input I'll take it to heart.

I've had my eye on an mc-202 for a long time so maybe I should stick to that plan.

You need to seek and conquer... I picked it up at this sports card trading/video game second hard store... It was hard to keep my composure when he said $20... Here's another one for a an Oberheim OB-Xa with flight case for $250 in 9/10 condition... Go to small towns with pawn shops and music stores... There was this small town 20 mins from when I was first getting into electronic music and for at least year they had a Yamaha CS80 for $899... I went to that store earlier this year first time in about 8 yearsandicked up an Tama TechStar TS305 analogue drum brain for $150...

the only pawn shops I know of around here never get anything new and they are always over priced. I go to small towns now and then to see what they got but too many shops have discovered ebay.

US dealer..

but I think I agree with Angstrom here..
probably not adding that much to your current set up..

great thing about the MS20 is that it has a HP and LP filter, which the 10 doesn't have, only a LP..

I remember being offered one for £20 in 1988 when I was working in a music shop. Analogue stuff wasn't worth anything then, you could pick up a SH101, or TB303 for between £25 - £50, so I resent paying ludicrous amounts for analogue gear now.

A few years back I sold a Moog Rogue for £200, and a TR808 with Kenton retrofit and Kenton Pro-4 for £370. I've also found a few bargains on car boot sales, Yamaha CS10 - £10, Jen SX1000 - £30, Casio CZ1000 - £8.

Personally, I'd rather wait until a secondhand bargain comes my way than spend hundreds on old technology.

Dude...

I love this plastic beast! Did you know that (some) gipsy musicians always looking for the CZ-1000 because there is a certain sound they need for their special gipsy party songs?
Friend o mine sold his to a gypsy for like 400 EU because he badly needed to play on a family party, this guy was like craving...

For real!

As has been said - MS-20 + superbly idiosyncratic synth. True classic.

MS-10 - weak younger brother without any of the character.
