Problems With Echo Indigo DJ - Mouse Freezes/Stutters

Post by STRATEGY_510 » Tue Jul 10, 2007 2:41 pm

Hi,

So I got theis PCMCIA card in the mail yesterday.

I installed it with the latest drivers. Sounds good, but when moving around my mouse doing things in Session, the mouse keeps freezing up for like 1/2 second at a time. It happens like at least once a minute and very frustrating. I never had anything like this with my onboard soundcard w/ Asio4all. I'm on a Dell laptop.

Oh yeah, and I use XP Media Center Edition 2002 sp2

I know that's lame and not recommended, but it hasn't had any noticable issues or conflicts with any of my other audio software/hardware, so I suspect that's not it.

oh yeah, running Live 6.07.

Does anyone have any ideas or anyone have similar problems with the echo DJ?

Should I send it back??

by the way, soylent green is people...

Is you PCMCIA slot using an ENE controller? You might need to use the Echo ENE fix:

yeah, I can run about 8-10 tracks in reason at 64 samples but the minimum in Live I can run without crackles and pops is 128 and once you get more than about 6 -7 tracks running or have vstis in the mix without freezing then 256 is required. When mixing down you can load up the plugins and step down to 1,024 samples.

Thanks, I was really hoping it would be, but it's a Ricoh..

The only other thing that comes to mind, is that I installed Tracktion 1.6 (it came with the echo) right around the time I installed the driver and started testing the card.

It doesn't look like tracktion has any background processes (I haven't even lauched it once) when it's not running, could it't install have caused some system conflict? sounds like a longshot.

I'm thinking about buying an oem xp pro and blow out this media center crap, except everything else is running so good and I'd rather not.

Is it possible that crappy Dell soundcard along with Asio4All just flat out runs better by taking less resources somehow?

I do have only 1gb ram, but im only running a few audio tracks with Guru and no efx when I run into this.

do you happen to be using a usb mouse plugged into the port next to the pcmcia slot? they might be on the same internal bus which could be the problem... it's a bit of a guess though.

I'm running a Dell Inspiron 6000 1.6 Pentium M processor with 1Gig RAM, Media Centre Edition 2005 along with the Echo Indigo DJ and USB infra-red mouse, no problems whatsoever.

The laptop has gigged 3 nights per week every weekend for over two years. I know Windows MCE is not recommended, but, I've never had a problem with it. :D

Although I have Ableton 6 on it, I don't use it for DJing, I use Traktor 3 for DJing.

no, the wireless is off.

I do have a wireless usb logitech mouse though, you suppose that might cause a problem?

Don't use Asio4All with the Echo Indigo DJ. It doesn't like it. If you haven't already, blow the Asio4All drivers out and use the drivers from the Echo site exclusively.

+1

Echo's recent drivers work great on my Indigo IO. ASIO4ALL is sometimes good, especially for generic onboard cards but does not work great with echo cards in my experience.
