Cheers Mike..

I'm getting a NI Audio Kontrol 1, and its USB.

I've had no real probs with USB in the past or present and always have heard / figured that USB2 would win the day eventually etc..

AK1 is what I've ordered anyway.. dont care now.. its done.. too late for regrets, LOL!!

What do you think the advantage of FW over USB is Mate - I'm guessing Latency?

well for 1 usb will only support 2in/2out audio
fine for recording 1 dude in stereo but if you want to record a full drum set, or a band, anything more than 2 tracks (1 stereo track)
than firewire can support more ins and outs
read the specs on the device some firewire only do 4 in 4 out

maybe that's all you need.

I agree also that the built in mac audio is pretty damn good.
I have a crummy old emac with just the built in audio card, 1 stereo mini jack.
go out from my mixer into thatm record tons of guitar in stereo, monitor live with the headphones, no problem

your machine kicks my machines ass
just try the built in audio, you may be pleasantly surprised.

Buy from a company that has a good history of writing solid drivers (e.g., RME, MOTU, not m-audio, or NI).

Its pretty cool.. got everything you could need..

Its a fair price.. (I've been brainwashed by NI)

and its got:

1 controller knob & 3 switches - built in.

Which can be used as a crossfader / killswitches.. You can monitor on it too with an A/B switch on the front which is top!!

Should be able to get some mixes going with it..

What, then, when you want to update your audio interface but not your controller?
Suit #1: I mean, have you got any insight as to why a bright boy like this would jeopardize the lives of millions?
Suit #2: No, sir, he says he does this sort of thing for fun.

Decisions decisions decisions.. The world is flat.. it'll never work.. no-one has ever done this before...you'd have to be mad to try that etc.. :(

Its hard not to make some mistakes along the way..

I'm thinking of getting one of those CME 3x Bitstreams in a few months.. when I'm a bit less in debt. That'll probably end up being my main controller eventually I would think.

As for audio.. From looking @ the net, I figure there will be cool PCIx soundcards in a few years time for Mac Pro's.. and I'll get meself one of those then. Its the way things are going really isnt it?

Worse case scenario.. I'll have a really decent external soundcard with midi controllers for my laptop in 2 years time!!!
