Midi Sequencing..

Just about to leave to buy some cables and what not. Im also getting a few MIDI cables. But I need to know for sure if I can sequence my synths from ableton live... like my lead or the micrkorg.. also can I automate such things like the filter or LFO on the synth through ableton.

Need a quick reply.

Well.. if i was to have these bloody cables, is it only MIDI IN you have to connect it to.. or is it IN and OUT?

provided that you just want to control the external synths with the Live sequencer, then you just need to plug a cable from the MIDI out on your computer's MIDI interface, to the MIDI in of the synth.
If you also want to use the keys on the synth as a MIDI keyboard to control vst instruments and such, you should also plug a cable from the MIDI out of the synth to a MIDI in on your MIDI interface.
If you only have one set of MIDI ins/outs on your interface and more than one synth, then you may want to plug one synth in first, and run another cable to a second synth from the MIDI thru port on the first synth. To make this work, you also need to set up your synths so that they recieve MIDI on different channels to prevent them always playing the same notes. i.e. Microkorg plays on channel 1, Lead on Channel 2 e.t.c.

oh, and to automate, just check your manuals for the synths and they should give you a list of MIDI controller numbers and the functions that they control on your specific synth.

Don't know for sure, but it should work. Just make sure your padKontrol is configured correctly in the midi preferences.
