School Boy question

Have just got into using sequencers and the likes after playing guitar and Djing for a while.
(Hope this is the right place to post this)
I'm having trouble recording, this is probably quite a daft problem though, I want to scratch over a beat i did in ableton and record it live, however the track i arm to record the scratching also records the beats and slightly phases both the drums and scratching. I assume its the way i'm set up, i've messed around with the monitoring settings and had a go routing them through different channels but to no avail.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

what do you use as an outboard mixer? from what you describe i'm thinking you may possibly have abe outputting into your dj mixer? say left channel which you are scratching against using the right channel and the main output of you mixer is your intput for recording into abe? this would give you a recording of your beat and scratching, and a recording of the monitoring at the same time, (playing it out as it plays in) therefore phase.

??? maybe not tho ???

I've got one deck going into my Dj mixer, right channel, the output goes into my sound cards input.....

Ah, I just figured it...!

My sounds cards output goes into my mixers line in 1 (L), therefore causing phase. ... What a fool I am!!

I'm not sure how else to set it up though? I have an audiophile 2496.

run the output of your soundcard direct to your amp/hifi, you will still be able to hear both play from abes output while monitoring in and rec the scratch but it will keep the scratch channel line in separate from your abe output so no phase issue.
