select automapped instrument with controller?

Post by håkan bråkan » Fri Jul 20, 2007 12:30 am

I'm using the automap for the korg microkontrol and also some mackie controls on port B for transport controls. But in order to produce completely without the mouse I want to be able to select each instrument with the controller as well. Is this possible (using mackie controls or the automap, i.e. without mouse and keyboard or pre-configured midi settings), and if so, how? (I'm able to select each channel using mackie controls, but not the instrument)

your best bet is to put the VSTs in to a rack and use the chain selector to choose between them.

Sure.

Select the channel containing the instrument.

Press "Device" on the MC.

Press the "vselect" (v-pot push 1-8) corresponding to the device slot you want.

The device parameters will be on the MC v-pots. Use page up/down on the MC to step through groups of 8 parameters at a time.

If you're not using a real MC, you'll find this a lot easier with a screen emulation program like HuskerVu (Google it) or LC Xview (see my sig).

If you want to control this stuff with the microKONTROL, and you're on the Mac, you may find LC Xmu more useful - full MC emulation for the MK, with LCD screen and LED feedback so you can see what you're doing. I just did the above on the MK without looking at the screen or using the mouse...

First try,
I tried with "device" using note number 43, and V-select (note number 32-39) and also V-pot (cc# 16-23), but none of this worked. So the "device" button should be pressed (toggle I suppose?), then V-select (moment?) and the parameters are then adjusted by pressing the V-pot number?

Conclusion ;)
Now, I'm clear why it didn't work, my intention was to use mackie to select the instrument and then control the instrument using abletons "automap". But using the V-pots it is mackie control all the way.

So, if I want to use the automap, how do I select instruments or effects?

All MC buttons are momentary, including v-select, so you need a press and release for each button. Device parameters are adjusted by turning the v-pot (or possibly pressing it for on/off parameters).

All I can think of is a combination of Bome's and AutoHotKeys to simulate some keyboard strokes and mouse clicks
