non-warping loops

Hello all,

Just dove into Live 6, so my apologies for the perhaps dumb question i'm about to pose. I'm sure this question has been asked many times before, but any direction you could point would be much appreciated.

I'm attempting to map a few 5 to 10 second clips to my midi controller and have them begin looping continuously whilst I work elsewhere. I've worked hard to make them sound the way I like, and I don't want the WARP button to screw with them. I've thoroughly explored the manual to find that the loop button doesn't work without WARP mode on. Is there any way around this?! I simply want a sample to play and loop when a key is pressed.

I'd rather not have to prepare each loop to a specific tempo before dropping it into Live (that would seem to defeat the improvisitory nature of the program). I'm open to any ideas including MIDI note manipulation (cc#64 perhaps?), any SAMPLER tricks, or any other concrete ideas.

Don't worry you're not alone

You shouldn't be afraid of re-pitch warp mode.

Set the clips to re-pitch. Set their seg. BPM (in the warp field) to the exact tempo of the set. Turn on loop.

Now they should loop just as they were.

I assume that you do not need to be changing the set tempo...

remember you may need to re-size the loop brace after setting the seg. bpm (re-drag it to the end of the sample)

in order to loop a non-warped audio-clip you can use follow actions. Just set it to "play again after 1, 2 or x bars". This works fine if the loops are cut for a specific tempo. Obviously it wont work that well if you change the tempo then.

that's the way i do this too. Try it.

Just drop it into a Simpler and loop it?

Thanks for the help, I've been typing in the seg. tempo and that seems to do the trick. Then I can easily use the midi map mode to assign whatever key I want to a loop.

I am having the same problem described by bullard.b. I've tried the re-pitch solution, only I am unable to lower the sample's bpm to that of the project. The latter is 120 and the former won't go below 133.02.

Any suggestions?
