First cover song(s) you learned

Post by beats me » Sun Jul 22, 2007 8:37 pm

I'm sure somewhere in the beginning your musical path you were either taught or figured out how to play some big hit song of the time. For me:

Keyboard
Send Me An Angel by Real Life
The Final Countdown by Europe

Guitar
More Than Words by Extreme. I still bust that one out for giggles.

Around the same time you couldn't walk into a music store without hearing a guitarist playing Metallica's Master of Puppets or Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven and a keyboardist playing Van Halen's Jump. Sadly now all you hear in the keyboard department is somebody hitting Hip Hop loop presets on a Korg keyboard.

It was 1975, and my sister taught me to play Sunshine of Your Love on my new guitar.

It was 1976: House of the Rising Sun (The Animals) on an acoustic guitar with steel snares. Got my fingers bleeding (I don't count the riff of Deep Purple's Smoke on the Water).
Kind regardz,

At age 15 I tried to learn Bad Brains I Against I.

It didn't really work. No one could tell what the song was I was trying to recreate. So my band at the time reworked what I had come up with and made a new song out of it.

It was "yellow submarine" on the guitar for me. Altohugh, it's been so long since I've picked one up, I don't think I could play it anymore...

I'm thinking that it was either La bamba or Helter-Skelter on the guitar,I do know that Helter Skelter was the reason I moved up from 9's to 10's (you break so many strings playing that tune if you us 9's, you have to really dig in to get that bwaaaiing guitar sound on the White Album).
