Good beer

And DO NOT come here for the drugs... unless of course you enjoy paying 10 times for the worst drugs you've ever come across in your life. The only exception to that is pot and that aint cheap either.

In fact just go to Europe dude...
Sorry,
But if you cant find good food in Australia you got real problems.

Sounds like you miss the crack here in Cali...

But Europe CAN be nice.

I don't know much about the geography, but I keep hearing good things about the land down under and everyone I've met from Australia is cool. It seems like a potential mecca of coolness. And yeah I also hear the girls are great. :D
Overtone it really depends on what your reasons are for coming here. I've been here for the last 3 years.. originally came to go to school and haven't left. But don't let that fool you I'll be leaving as soon as I can.

I won't go into details out of respect for the Aussie folks here... I'll just say I haven't been received well here at all!! And I'm a pretty easy going dude. I think things might have been different 10 years ago... maybe before Bush humiliated, betrayed and defaced the American people... but who knows. Sadly I think because of whats going on with America right now Americans aren't received well in lots of places around the world (maybe most places).

If I was you Overtone I'd consider Europe or even staying where you're at for awhile. If you do decide to come down under bring lots of money cause it aint cheap, heres a few things to expect and not to expect:

Expect:
Amazing un-crowded beaches
Crystal clear water
Good looking girls (but there is beautiful girls just about anywhere you go in the world)
Beautiful pristine nature

Don't Expect:
Easy good looking girls
Good beer
Good food
Cheap anything (especially gear)
Good service
Friendly service

And DO NOT come here for the drugs... unless of course you enjoy paying 10 times for the worst drugs you've ever come across in your life. The only exception to that is pot and that aint cheap either.

In fact just go to Europe dude...
wow man - you must be in Sydney - it's the only part of the country that could deserve that kind of rap

and to be honest that kind of treatment is pretty rich considering the Howard government is stil in charge here - those dudes might as well be in Bush's cabinet

the long and short is Sydney is the most "International" style impersonal loud and large city in Oz, the rest make you glad to be alive

maybe that's just how I feel after London

Brisbane is just such a nice place - people are really warm and friendly and you dont feel stressed trying to do anything, then you just get in your car and drive on big highways which only get crowded at peak times and go to the gold or sunshine coasts if you want beach - the Gold coast and northern NSW boast some awesome hinterland and coast and the sunshine coast does too

admittedly I have a child so I'm not after the raging party life any more and I really appreciate the easy life, but there is not much Sydney and Melbourne get that we dont get in Brisbane (or even Byron Bay and GOld coast if you're talking touring DJs) but we get a more laid back life and good weather with the package

you must be in the wrong place 3rdordertrauma - I dont think you'd cop that shit here

I'm really surprised you say all that actually, unless you've been charging about with the General Lee flag shouting about shooting A-rabs

there are heaps of Americans at my Uni and they seem to fit in alright

i personally dont like aussie hip hope with thelocal accent.

hip hop is nice when it sounds poetic in its flows and 'okka' is not an accent that has any poetic undertone .. the streets from the uk sound very poetic with their local accent however.

the food here does suck (sydney)

that's cause you live on the north shore

I've had some great food in newtown, glebe, surrey hills, paddo

mind you that was mostly 10 years ago - but that Italian restaurant we went to in Chippendale was wicked - wot you on about?!

crows nest isnt famous for it!

i dont mind some of the Australian accent rap - I prefer that to putting on a fake accent

I think that's a little bit of cultural cringe and self deprication, but it's every bit as valid cultrually

you might see UK hip hop differently if you lived in south London or Essex - nothing worse than chavvy boy racers talking like gangsters

3 places i recommend in sydney for food:

breakfast: strangers with candy in Phillip St Redfern
lunch: icebergs bondi
dinner: summit restaurant australia square

same quality food anywhere else in the world costs at least a third less. what im sayin is that prices a mortal can afford on a regular basis leave some pretty average choices.

i agree about the perspective from the uk may be similar to mine towards chavhop and i do agree its valid culturally but doesnt make it sound any better.

karma from 1200 techniques isnt bad for aussie hip hope but nah still doesnt flow.

its not just aussie hip hop, i just think rap happens to sound good with certain accents is all.

french rap sounds great
chavrap actually sounds good
americanese rap sound great
chinese rap sounds crap
german rap sounds crap a lot of the time
turkish rap sounds worse

im sounding like a jerk as a person, but im speaking with my producer hat on.

thats not to say all of it sux, the best mc's ive found in oz happen to be female.

also the thing about chavhop which i like is most of the lyrics ive heard aint tryin to be LA like australian hip hop, theyre just flowin about how life sux bein a chav at times despite some cheeky mischief.

:D Sorry to dis your piss... I know its the holy water here, but I just haven't found many nice ones. I grew up in a place where there's a microbrew on every street corner selling fresh quality beer for cheap. Maybe you could recommend a few good ones here? You'll probably bash me for saying this but best I've found so far is the Cooper's Green or Red.

I have found a handful of places with good food... but it took me a long time to find em. And even then I've never waited so long in my life to get my food and its bloody expensive! Melly seems very different... I spent a day there and had no complaints... good food, excellent coffee and chill vibe in that city.

Yeah I think you are right forge... I think I am in the wrong part of OZ. I've been to Melly... for a day and it seemed great. I've spent some time in both Sydney and Bisbane and they had decent vibe although maybe not the places for me. Where I'm at now they celebrate the "Independence from America Day" on the 4th of July... which you could probably imagine isn't to warm towards the American folk. I'm certainly not the proud patriotic type charging about with a General Lee flag shooting any derogatory slang... I'm actually mello as they come and love people and I have quite a strong disagreeing opinion when it comes to the US government. I came here open arms cause I had several work mates and girl friends in the states from OZ... all cool as shit, and I had heard nothing but good things about it. But actually being here has has opened my eyes a lot. Like I said I haven't been treated well here at all, first time in my life I felt discriminated against because of simply where I was born (which is probably a good thing to experience). I've had people turn and walk away from me after several minutes of good friendly conversation because they learned I was American and not Canadian. I've seen more violence on the streets of the Gold Coast in a span of about 20 minutes than I have in years of growing up in LA & southern California. I seriously mean no offense but I just have not been impressed with what I've experienced here.

I also don't like to see countries like Australia adopt all the thug life gangsta crap the US is selling to everyone. Australia would be a way better place if it didn't adopt all our bad habits.
