That's what what I do too.

I avoid drinking coffee until I really need it. I'll drink a cup maybe 3-4 times a month. That way I'm sensitized to it and I'll get an huge energy boost when have one.

People who have a few cups a day start to become dependant on it. If they go without it, they are dragging big time. Having caffeine every day starts to eat into your REM (deep eye movement) cycle sleep. When lacking REM sleep you will feel lethargic if you don't have the caffeine. So caffeine (as a substitute for quality sleep) will be necessary just keep you feeling "normal" and not irritable. It's a vicious cycle where more and more caffeine will be necessary to substitute for the sleep quality your'e not getting.

I also believe there is kind of a premature aging effect due to substituting caffeine for quality sleep over a long period of time. Caffeine is a dieuretic too, so it dehydrates and removes water from the body. You can almost see it written on someone's face after years of doing it.

I stopped drinking soda about 10 years ago. Sodas (red bulls, etc) are even worse crash and burn effect because of the sugar's temporary shock to the system combined with the caffeine. I remember when I used to have soda, I would actually get tired after having it. I didn't even get a boost from the sugar or if I did, it was 5 mins max before being more tired than I was in the first place. (Maybe that's just my body's reaction to it at least.)

I drink japanese (sencha) green tea. There's only a little caffeine in it, and it's a slower, more gradual, long lasting, uplifting effect. Instead of a coming way up and crashing down like a roller coaster. Health benefits too...

red bull is toxic garbation only drunk by immature pindicks. weed is total bullshit, ideal for weak minded simpletons. coffee and cigarettes are the only true answer, a real mans cocktail.
