novation automap question

Post by cyberbeats » Mon Jul 30, 2007 11:14 am

hello!
i've got a novation remote sl and would like to know
if it's possible to select the plugins to edit from the controller
instead of clicking on them with the mouse in ableton live.
For example i have two effects on a track
and need to select one, edit it and then select the other.
I use preset 40, ableton automap, not universal.
Thanks for any help.

to my knowledge - there's no direct way. you have to poke a device with your mouse, so they can me mapped.

BUT, you can group your effects in a rack (if you're on live 6) and map the crucial parameters to macro knobs.

if one rack just aint enough - you can make presets in the SL for those additional racks and lock the upper knobs to a, say, master rack.

thanks for the reply.
I already use racks and macro,
i have many of them in each track
and need to select each one and edit,
directly from my controller.
So if this is not possible on the novation,
can this be done on a mackie universal controller?
The fact is that my novation came with a broken knob,
so i will return it in the next days,
and i'm really thinking to upgrade to a mackie MCU.
But i would really like to know if i can use it as said before
and if i will miss something from the remote SL (except keyboard of course).
Thanks for any feedbacks!

yes, i wanted to do that as well.
dunno about the mackie unit
the only solution i have found - a trigger finger. in the sl you have to scroll thru your presets until you find one you want, and this just sux.
so i got the trigger finger. where you can get to any preset by pressing only 2 buttons (mem recall + a respective pad).
i'm then programming each knob to a unique cc and so i have 16 presets by hand for 16 racks.
and pads transmit notes for navigation, using mackie control emulation.
hope this helps
