Cheers for vid - confirmed my opinion too. Obviously dressing up in Robot Suits and pretty light shows can make up for a huge dearth in talent and musical imagination. We sure are lucky they found some old hooks to lift and bought a vocoderpeeddrroo wrote:this video of bangalter live in 96 has changed my mind about daft punk. http://www.fazed.org/video/?id=329 no laptop...

the haters are just just pissed off because you will never achieve what they have. whether you agree with how they did it is irrelevant. so what they stole a few hooks, loads of producers do it.

Mugging the general public with generic musical laziness? Believe it or not some people can come up with a new musical idea or phrase every bar, or sometimes 4, or sometimes 8....the second verse or chorus doesn't need to be the same. You get the idea...humans worked this out on some rocks several thousand years ago...but hey, what the hell, if they're makin a living punting this crap then props to them. So's Macdonaldsjedeye wrote:the haters are just just pissed off because you will never achieve what they have.
'Producers'? Gotta love that term - guy eats a pizza and a turd falls out his arse then he's a 'producer'. Actually to be fair they have acknowledged sampling other peoples hooks because, as that video testified, they quite clearly had fuck all of their ownwhether you agree with how they did it is irrelevant. so what they stole a few hooks, loads of producers do it.

You hit the nail on the head. The depth of their musicality makes Tiesto look like Beethoven.Nod wrote: 'Producers'? I realize I really shouldn't be shocked by this sort of thing, but their utter lack of ANYTHING of interest shook me up.
You may now proceed with your lives.

One more time? In the case of this gem it's actually 28 more times...

Yeah because what makes a song like digital love stand out is clearly the hook they lifted and not the wicked solo.Nod wrote:jedeye wrote:. Actually to be fair they have acknowledged sampling other peoples hooks because, as that video testified, they quite clearly had fuck all of their own
Digital love could be just as good without the hook, remove the vocals and the solos and its nothing.
You are a fool.

It's not me. This is the most seriously boring, no-tension creating/releasing, unbelievably repetitive garbage ever to sully my ears. Even the filter/res usage is so exagerrated as to sound amateur.
How much dope does it take to make this sound good????
how much dope does it take to make your myspace snips sound (at least) interesting?

another line to go down here. Dj Shadows Entroducing was made entirely with samples. does that make it any less amazing? not in my book. also i never use loops. i write every part, i just recognize that sampling is a totally different skill and is very hard to do well, to know what to use and to leave out.
i saw DP a few weeks back but i didn't stop dancing mid set and go ' i remember this one, they sampled it from so and so, it's not right!' lol

Ta. You mean this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N689QWwYJj4BBScience wrote:Yeah because what makes a song like digital love stand out is clearly the hook they lifted and not the wicked solo. The sample they've lifted provides the backing for most of the track (with the addition of a groundbreaking hipass filter), then some vague notion of a 'riff' finally appears around 2 mins followed by an almost interesting 3 note Supertramp kinda electric keys thing, as for the wicked solo there's about 10 million guitar/keys players who could knock that out on their tea break - a coupla brief flurries of 32nd note runs with some poor phrasing being the highlight of it's 'wickedness'. The 'vocals'? Frankly surprised they haven't went the whole hog an included the 'I wish I could fly, right up to the sky' school of erudite rhyming couplets...
Yer right - it's nothing
With all due respect if music's to be sold that way then the analogy is valid....jedeye wrote:you need to stop thinking about junk food.

It's an awesome record I'll agree - but surely that because it's apparent how much work went into it? He wasn't just taking a few sounds and regurgitating them - it's one thing to take a single melodic sample and base a track around it - it's another to take disparate musical elements and construct an, otherwise unachievable, collage. It's like the old PE tunes, something that could never been done now because of copyright laws, taking hundreds of individual pieces to create the whole - along with Chuck ripping over the top

Fair enough - we are, after all dealing with the subjective. I just happen to expect a bit more musical effort. Not an unreasonable proposition is it?
