Anyone from Hawaii??

Post by ScholarlyGent » Wed Aug 01, 2007 9:38 pm

I'll be on the North Shore of Oahu all next week and I'm looking for some advice. I know most of the big North Shore spots (Wiamea, Sunset, Pipeline, Hale'iwa) and I also know they are dead in the summer. Does anyone know of any decent summer spots other than Wiakiki? Aloha!

Haha!!! Unbelievable! I was totally just telling my wife that we should send a letter to Dog telling him he is our hero with the hopes he would take us on a hunt with him! I've already been tracking down Da Kine Bail Bonds... I'll be making a stop. Excellent call!!!!

Hahaha! I used to live 1/2 a mile away from his office. He was never anywhere to be found, though.

aloha,

i live in town. i surf near waikiki a lot, like out at pops, paradise, 3's and sometimes over at publics. but there are other spots around the south shore that are good. diamond head is always nice. so is ala moana bowls, but it tends to be a little localized. i would check diamond head for sure if you want to avoid waikiki. we have some small kine south swells continuing through the week so you should get a little action.

go snorkling up at waimea bay while you are there, sharks cove is nice to for diving on the north shore in the summer.

there are some breaks on the east side that are good buy i rarely go there. i can get some names for you if you want.

Thanks Dango! I really appreciate the advice. I'll definitely go check out Diamond Head. Is there anything breaking on the North Shore at all in the summer? I'll be spending most of my time up there so anything that I dont have to drive far to get to will be optimal. Those windward spots might be nice to. Thanks so much again. If for some strange reason you ever come to Long Beach Island NJ I'll wire you in!

Doing any island hopping? I went to Kauai about 2 years ago and loved it. This is all tourist-y stuff, but if you have the $, it's still cool...

1) Poipu beach: great snorkeling. (take a bag of frozen peas with you, and let out a handful to be surrounded by hundreds of fish!)

2) There's an old sugar cane plantation that has been converted to an ATV tour. I can't remember the name, except that the dirt is red. The tour lasts about 2 or 3 hours, and it's pretty fun. You can ride solo in on an ATV or ride tandem with your sig. other in what they call a "grasshopper" (a small dune buggy).

3) Helicopter tour of Waimea Canyon. The pilot pulled up real close to some really cool waterfalls.

So yeah...tourist-y stuff, but I'm not ashamed. It was fun (and I didn't have to pay for it! :D )

Yeah, Kauai is absolutely beautiful. I was there a few years ago and also did the Waimea Canyon heli tour. Absolutely amazing... and they give you a video of the flight with my voice recorded through the intercom saying "fucking awesome" about thirty times.

I'll only be in Oahu this time, but thanks for the advice!
