It seems to me that The "DJ" focus of LIVE sometimes blinds them to some of the normal and essential features of other DAW's.
I agree on this, workflow is halted in the sequencer view, and although Live 6 did refine some of the recording features they still need to refine the sequencer view (which is where I do all my work).
Maybe Live should make 2 different interfaces one for gig (live) playing and one for recording.

now heres a good idea indeed.bigcohoona wrote: Maybe Live should make 2 different interfaces one for gig (live) playing and one for recording.
it is called Ableton Live, so focussing on the ability to use it live should be the main priority.
if they want to create the perfect DAW, so be it, then make it separate from the live part then, because id rather see them spend their resources on perfecting it for live useage, as it is what its intended for, as stated by the name.
theres tons of ideas and requests on the forums here which is mainly for liveuseage, and that is what they should focus on, rather then trying to make yet another sequencer.
like a said in my recent thread while over looking this one.
to expand on unfolding tracks in the arrangement view, if you could have multiple lanes below the midi editor in the clip view to (optionally) replace the usually redundant (in my case) velocity lane then programming complex drum patterns using control of multiple parameters simultaneously would become easier ten fold, because at present it becomes a laborious laboured task that usually ends in compromise due to frustration from constantly clicking between the env and midi view and then going on to faff with the two drop down menus to find your parameter. this becomes laughable when you are doing tiny adjustments of say, pitch env amount and and pitch env decay etc.
a similar set up below the wave editor in the clip view would also be as useful
id like to take this chance to note that i did notice the addition in 6 of viewing only automated parameters in a single drop down menu which increased productivity in this respect by a small margin but its still not enough.

However, live is a sequencer. Just a different type of sequencer. The flexiblity of writing and jamming in session view is just as much a part of Live as the performance aspect. I'm guessing most people playing their own matial on stage use live to write it in the first place. So adding features to help in the writing and editing of their music ultimately improves the performance.friend_kami wrote:now heres a good idea indeed.bigcohoona wrote: Maybe Live should make 2 different interfaces one for gig (live) playing and one for recording.

I don't think adding these features makes live like logic or cubase, as the session view is unique to live. It's about giving people the tools they need to help them within this environment. As long as it can be done without cluttering up the GUI.
