Instrument Rack Chain question

Post by register » Fri Aug 03, 2007 1:29 am

hello everyone,
I was wondering if anyone could please help me out with a query regarding live 6's instrument rack / chain feature?
When the chain is used to switch between synths, are all the other inactive synths disabled and therefore not stressing the CPU? it's just that we're currently using a tech 21 midi mouse to change between patches, thought the CPU seems pretty high for was actually running at one point in time. I'm running a C2D 17" macbook pro.
So whats the deal with instrument rack chains and CPU?
Thanks in advance for your help
Tom

no, it currently doesn't actually disable the synth, so whatever cpu it uses when idling will be consumed. having said that, theres a feature in the latest beta's that can allow you to switch the chain off entirely when not in use...
Until now, when mapping MIDI CC to a on/off button, the button is switched when the MIDI CC value crossed 64.
Now, it is possible to set up min and max value for such a mapped button.
The idea is that when the CC value is between min and max, the button is switched on (or off in reverse mode).
If the CC value is outside the min and max range, the button is switched off (or on in reverse mode).
i'm assuming that this'll be active in the next full version, or if you want it now get the current beta going.

Yeah! 'over there by the beefburgers,' courtesy of Vic and Bob's Mulligan and O'Hare... I was wondering if anyone in the world ever get that.

thanks for the info on the chains... shame they're not as clever as I'd hoped. I guess it just means that I'm gonna have to do some hardcore automation.

hey brightonalex... do you remember the cottage cheese song? I'll probably have to cover it!
Thanks
tom
