i'm using amd x2 and i get the same results.
100% cpu usage in ableton, 60% in task manager..
i tried to close all programs and disable all irrelevant services, but it still behaves the same..
i'm new to ableton and i would like to know if this is normal before i consider buying it.
is it possible to trick windows / ableton in order to use more resources?
How does Live's CPU meter relate to the actual CPU of the pc

Crackling can come from a lot of hardware related things that are unrelated to CPU. Disk Usage, Ram issues, etc. The cpu meter in Live seems unreliable to me and I've had crackles at 20% and no crackles when the meter went over 140+. Yes, that's right over 140. I have a core 2 Duo and there is some weirdness in Live's CPU meter when it has both processors running.

On my C2D, the Live CPU usage meter is about 50% of the usage in the Task Manager. Sonar 6 has an elegant solution showing the load over both CPUs, but for Live, it's just the usage of one CPU. So if I load an effect that takes 5% on one track, and I load the same effect on another track, the CPU meter doesn't change and stays at 5%. But on the Task Manager, the first time, it's up to 2-3%, then up to 5% with the addition of the second track.
