cpu spikes with effects in 3.04

Post by secretagentgel » Tue Jul 06, 2004 2:03 am

i downloaded the newest version on the web site. i don't know what version i was previously using. now all effects, both yours and vst's, are causing seemingly random cpu spikes. ive configured live the same way i always have in the past.

an example - i've got a drum loop playing on a track in the session view. ive got send 1 with your reverb effect on it. as the track plays, i move the send 1 knob from 0 to 127 and back again, thus adding and removing reverb. after doing this a few times the cpu meter, which normally hovers around 30% will jump to 65%, causing my mouse to get all jumpy. eventually the cpu usage will decrease again but doesn't seem to be affected by moving the send knob, disabling the reverb plug-in or even stopping audio. deleting the plug-in is the only thing that seems to predicatable drop the cpu usage. what's weird about this is that 1) i never had problems with this setup before and 2) changing the plugin for something else seems to cause the same problems.

please help! i have a gig on thursday night!

thanks,

corey

hi sagel:

some time back i had an identical problem. in my case, the problem was solved by disabling AMD SpeedStep on my laptop.

i don't know if this is related to your problem in any way though...
