HELP! what's going wrong with my burning to CD?!?

Post by register » Tue Aug 07, 2007 12:45 pm

ok, so I''ve been burning my demo to CD, and I've gone through a sizable pile of CDs. However, listening back to the CD and the original WAV file, the CD sounds crushed at first. Then I ripped a wav and compared them. The CD ripped file did clip in many places. What the hell is going on here?
My original files are limited to -0.1 db, 16bit. However, when it goes onto CD, the frequencies change and clips of up to 0.8 db occur.
Could someone please help me out?!?
Thanks
Tom

I've tried CD architect, where the peaks are visable, and Roxio toast.

hmm... Inspecting the Files, I see that the WAVs are 48kHz, not 41.1 ... will this make a difference on the burn?
I'm really stumped on this

Export in 24 bit, 44.1 kHz from Live. Import into wave editor. Check that you don't have any clipping (max peak below 0 dB).

Normalize to -0.5 dB or so and then convert to 16 bits with dithering in wave editor. Burn the resulting file.

Yeah, the sample rate was the problem... the CD convertion from 48 to 44.1, reulted in added spikes. I guess most burning apps don't have a sophisticated Sample rate converter. Shows me for exporting everything at 48. Duh!
Thanks for your help!
