A new flagship synth (and a few other things)
A substitute for Operator. it quite sucks. I'm a long time logic user and being used to the es2 synth, operator just doesn't do it for me. for one the interface is too small. Make something like es2 or even better get rob papen to make something like Linplug Albino with a lot of routing options (isn't that part of what Live is about?).
I'm sure this has been mentioned: When i switch tracks with my left/right arrow keys it would be very convenient if the first rack in that track was automatically activated. and it would be nice if I could switch to the return tracks with the arrow keys as well. This would really, really help me make Live more live.
Some way to easily mark portions of an audio clip and send these bits to Impulse. And optionally make new bounces so stretching/pitching/envelope is preserved. make it possible to adjust the fade in time in impulse (its way too long now) and since there's a "start time" knob, why not an "end time" as well?
a way to let parameters in audio effects and instruments be controlled by midi effects. for example delay feedback controlled by velocity.
sidechain compression. do it.
a brickwall limiter. essential on stage.
otherwise a great application. i love it.

Use alt + arrow keys to navigate around in Live and to select devices.
Set the start + end marker in the clip as you want the sound in impulse. Drag the clip to an impulse slot. Some way to easily mark portions of an audio clip and send these bits to Impulse.

There are thousands of VST synths around already, I'd rather have Ableton spend more time actually making Live a better product, than them trying to develop their own synths. If you want Albino, use Albino.glamourboy wrote:A substitute for Operator. it quite sucks. Thanks for the alt-tip.hoffman2k wrote: Use alt + arrow keys to navigate around in Live and to select devices.

EDIT:
Tried the alt+arrow thing and it sort of works. But it takes 3 taps on the arrow down key to get from track names to the plugin section. First step moves me to the clip section (which i could have done pressing just arrow down without alt) and get this: Second step takes me to the master or cue out selector(!) and the master out is changed how? With the ARROW DOWN KEY! does this seem dangerous to anyone else? tried to uncheck the I/O button but then i just have a "ghost" step. Also it's a big thing having to use two hands on the keyboard. takes focus away from my controller.
i still think my suggestion of auto selecting the first rack in a (single) selected track
is an exellent one. it seems like a change fairly easy change to make and i don't really see a downside.
About the clip => impulse thing, I was looking for an EASY way. Like marking 5 bits of sound and click "send to impulse". Thing is it takes forever to chop up for example drumbreaks, having to mark one bit, go to impulse, drag the clip, back to mark another bit and so on.
Yes, well being a long time logic user I know the beauty of native plugins. i own Albino, a brickwall limiter and a compressor capable of sidechaining, but they are all very cpu expensive. The less third party software, the more stable your system is going to be.snakedogman wrote: There are thousands of VST synths around already, I'd rather have Ableton spend more time actually making Live a better product, than them trying to develop their own synths. I do not share these sentiments.snakedogman wrote:

Firstly, like Sampler, Operator is a seperate product from Live in terms of finance, so it is in Abletons interest to improve these products, perhaps to a less degree than Live, but they still bring in cash to Ableton, which is what's important in business.
Like Sampler, Operators integration with Live makes it a favoured "go to" synth for many users, including myself.
I would love nothing more than to see an improved Operator, with more modular options, waveforms, etc.
Personally, I dont want Operator replaced, I'd like to see this already fantastic synth improved.

blahblahblah - how much did you pay for your last operator update - it isNOT a separate product at all! try to use the latest version of operator with Live 4 .... nonsense! marketing blahblah ....
while i'm glad someone sees this from my perspective, i really can't see whats fantastic about operator. .
Well, then you should maybe try harder
Operator is great - for me it is up with Zebra and Absynth - which means higher ranked here than Massive, es2, and lots of others I have. It is not great for everything - but for some things it is better than the rest

Operator is a great synth! If you are having problems with it, maybe do some research on the nature of FM synthesis and try to apply it w/ Operator, it will blow your mind. When combining Operator with the built-in Ableton effects, the sounds can be extremely organic and dirty sounding.
Also, I really am in love with the envelopes, since the looping modes for those can create some intensely textured microsonic audio.

sure you can do some nice fm synthesis in operator, which is cool but one lfo? and one filter? graphic envelopes can be great, but in operators case it's so tiny i feel like i'm fucking flies, and since it's graphic why use adsr (i like adsfr by the way) instead of a "free draw" envelope? and being able to loop the envelope is not a great feature if you can't place the looppoints. good for fm, not for much else.
