Importing a sample...

Post by liquidlove » Wed Aug 08, 2007 10:24 pm

Lets say I want to lift something off another song. Do I have to import the whole song? How do you guys edit the part you need to use, do you use another program?

also when I load a sample it seems to insist on loading the whole thing, is there a way to make it stop half way through?

Live doesn't import the song, it creates a data file that references the sample. once you do a "collect all and save" then it makes another copy of the sample in its own directory (called a project folder).

if you have 20,000 clips with a song in it, you don't end up with 20,000 copies of the clip, just 1 .asd file and the sample.

watch this video, it's a great example of how to chop up samples

watch all the movies here, they'll teach you a lot, leave Live open while watching them, if you can.
