Recording tempo automation from midi clock?

Post by dinchak » Sat Aug 11, 2007 6:10 pm

hey everyone,

i'm having some trouble recording tempo automation from a midi clock source. i hope this is possible and i'm just missing something. basically here's my setup and what i want to accomplish:

i have a machinedrum sending sync information into ableton via midi clock. this all works great. i can start/stop ableton with the machinedrum, even change ableton's tempo by changing the machinedrum's tempo. the only problem is that ableton doesn't seem to record those tempo changes.

i understand that one possible solution is to have ableton send midi clock to the machinedrum, map a knob to ableton's tempo, and record that automation. i could resort to this method if needed, but it's really not ideal, especially with some other max/msp stuff i have going on that relies on the tempo from the machinedrum--it uses that tempo information to switch patterns and things like that, so it needs to be really solid. i don't know if it would be accurate enough coming from ableton, although i haven't tried it yet.

i hope someone has some ideas!

thanks!
