Also be a good chance to jsut get a beer in and meet some new people.

Just a suggestion however and as I have never been to this sort of thing feel free to jump in.....
yeh, i like pubs and beer so i'd be into that, midweek or weekend. im not really into banging dance music, just making sounds and whatnot with ableton so i'd be into learning a few techniques and things and maybe sharing what i know (if what i know is worth sharing)

but whatever, if there is some soundsystem thing going on then i'd probably drop by.

i live in stokey so central or eastish is ok for me

Sounds good to me. I've never jammed with others using Ableton, so wouldn't know where to start. ;)

well if we are going to do this (which Im in favour of) then it may be an idea to have a general chat before going any further...im not sure the whole idea of sitting around a pub table with laptops is a good one for me..next thing we'll need to carry pencils in our front pockets ;)
how about an irc channel or some sort of group conference thing ?

sounds like a good idea, you want to set up an irc channel or msn chat or similar?

Mark I get your point, we'd look like a bunch of uber geekazoids, but, the idea of meeting up in a pub, or where ever, is to meet-up, shake a hand and have a beer. If you wanna do a lan party or something like that we might as well just carry on posting in this thread.

I assumed (quite possibly incorrectly) that Mark was suggesting we use IRC or whatever to work out the format for a meet up (e.g. whether we should be "sitting around a pub table with laptops").

It may take a number of events to work out the best format for this kind of things, but I'm up for trial and error rather than too much planning.

So, are we still meeting on Sunday? How are we doing for a venue?

Well I'll look into setting up an irc channel/msn group - shouldnt be that difficult.
but yes - I agree that a proper meet up would be good - and even in a pub would be better...

sorry guys, just moved house and been offline for a bit added to work blowing up and havent really been able to keep on track.

Looks like this sunday is off as havent managed to get anything sorted. IRC or msn group etc sounds like an excellent idea though to get a date sorted and maybe get a few people from other sites (alj.....) to get involved.

in other news I am playing tonight in islington if anyone is local.

Cedar Room, upper st (just by the underground) 10-4am for my monthly residency slot.

Hi all.

I've spoken with kyleweb before about this. Have been unable to take part in getting something together as I was waiting to get my hands on a laptop. Which, I'm most happy to say, is now the case.

When I first piped up, I suggested that instead of doing a PA or anything, the best idea might be to hire a rehearsal studio. There's one 5 mins from Old St. station that costs only £40 for 4 hours. Between us that isn't much. Also, as we could bring our own beer, the cost of the room is covered by the savings from not paying £3/pint!!!

This would allow us to meet, jam on a PA, check out each others style etc. If/when things are coming together musically, we could then think about playing out somewhere.

Let me know your thoughts on this idea, and we'll sort out a date.

I'm generally free anytime except Tue/Thurs evenings.

It is in Clapham.

Also I spoke with Ableton in Germany yesterday about this and if you ring me I can tell you more.

I will PM you my mobile number.

Nice one.

Will give you a bell in a bit. At work at the mo, but will have a break pretty quick.

To be honest, I'm not so keen on this as I would be on a less formal get together. I can see whoever is on the PA drowning out anyone else's music or conversation.

Even if there's the potential for everyone to be on the PA at once, not everyone's into jamming. I know I'm not. So if it becomes a multi-laptop jam-fest, I'll probably end up sitting in the corner and twiddling my thumbs...

I would like to meet other Ableton users, trade tips, listen to tunes, and generally have a chin wag - and maybe spin the idea of some kind of a night out of it. And if I find someone who thinks like I do, maybe then I'll want to get together with them to throw some ideas around. But that's not what my first step would be...
