Who Works Full Time in Music/Audio?
Just curious to see how many people out there make music/audio for a living.
If you do, maybe you can describe what your occupation/employment is just to give us an idea of what's out there.
If you don't currently work in music or audio full time, but would like to, what would you like to do?

I prefer it that way. If I did music as a job, it would become just that. I'd probably never release another thing of my own if i had to listen to other peoples all day.
*shudder*
I know a lot of people that once they turned their creative interest into a career they stopped enjoying doing it. But as you said it is assumed that you would be doing it for other people. I think it would be really rewarding if you were making a living off producing your own music and maybe doing remixes for other artists. I would also think DJing (mostly playing other people's music) could be rewarding as well if you were making your living off of it and playing the styles of music you want to play.

I'd love to. I've done some sound design and music for TV, small videogames and independent movies, and even when it can be a pain to make your creativity stick inside the boundaries of what the person above you wants, working like that helps keeping your skills up. If I could do that and make my own music (with the gigging and all involved), I'd be happy.
Poll option missing - used to, but didnt pay well consistently enough.
In my case - used to be involved in a/v production for national TV in the UK as a freelance contractor - sometimes paid very well, sometimes crap, feast or fammin etc.
Gave up when some dood who ran a little software company offered me a job as a developer with a useful and consistent income - prior to that software was really just a way of earning a living between production jobs. Back then - the IT world was still young, creative and fun too.
Now 13 years later - after a big corp bought that little company, I f****** hate the IT world

Nothing to see here - move along!
i've been a live sound and recording engineer since 1997, spend most of my time touring doing live sound and am very very selective about the recording projects that i do as sitting in a studio for hours on end with music i'm not invested in does no one any good.
also play music and tour in that capacity as well.

i have the fun of going between gigs in music...
i ping pong between international tours, mixing foh for live bands and releasing/performing in live bands.
i usually make money mixing, loose money playing,
but i'm only about to start dealing with a publishing house for the first time,
hopefully this will lead to some liscencing of my work and another source of income.
never been to smart about it, just been having a ball...but approaching 40, i realize i need to make some dough for when i physically can't do it anymore-if that ever happens....
